'Muslim #branding' and #halal products A week after a deputy tourism minister in #Malaysia announced the possibility of positioning #Langkawi as a Muslim destination (something I think is absolutely brilliant but extremely challenging because Thailand, the UK, France and Singapore are popular Muslim destinations) his boss came out and said it wasn't happening. But it got me thinking about all the money invested in the halal industry and I came up with some random stats that I thought I'd share with you. Malaysia has 95,398 (2021) products that are halal certified and fun fact, 68,686 of them are non bumiputera owned products. Thailand has more than 160,000 halal certified products and one assumes the vast majority of them are non bumiputera owned. Talking of positioning, Thailand aims to be a regional halal hub in 4 years (2028). I don't know if you can have 2 regional halal hubs in the same region but according to the article below, Malaysia is the worlds leading halal industry hub. However that article says Malaysia exports about US$8 billion of halal products which is half what MITI says so I'm not sure how that will evolve. Where is Thailand sending its halal products? Well Indonesia, Iraq, the UAE, Mozambique and Malaysia, yes Malaysia account for 75% of total halal food exports. Despite having almost twice as many halal products which make up 20% of Thailands total food exports, Thailand's halal product exports are valued at around US$6 billion only half of Malaysia's halal product exports valued at US$13 billion according to MITI. https://lnkd.in/gE7TU7Nx.

🍇 Australian Wine Thrives in Vietnam's Booming Market 🥂 Aussie wines are making a significant impact in Vietnam, with sales reaching AUD 11.5 million last year—doubling figures from two years prior. This surge comes amid enhanced bilateral relations and growing recognition of Australian products in Vietnam. 🌏 At the South Australia Wine Connect 2024 gala in Hanoi, Australian Ambassador Andrew Goledzinowski highlighted the deepening ties between the two countries, which have set the stage for expanded wine trade opportunities. 📈 The Vietnamese wine market, valued at $347.10 million in 2022, is expected to nearly double by 2030, reaching $692.27 million. This growth trajectory is fueled by rising disposable incomes and a robust retail sector that saw a nearly 20% increase in 2022. 🍷 The SA Wine Connect event extended to Ho Chi Minh City, featuring Master Class wine-tasting sessions that attracted hundreds of wholesalers and retailers. Renowned Australian wineries like Turkey Flat, First Drop, and Sorby Adams showcased their products, targeting sophisticated consumers aged 25 and above. 📚 These educational initiatives are proving crucial for Vietnamese wine enthusiasts, particularly those between 25 and 40 years old, who are increasingly seeking premium experiences. The success of these events has been amplified by significant social media buzz, underlining the growing importance of Vietnam as a key market for international wine exports. #WineIndustry #AustralianWine #MarketExpansion #Vietnam #CulturalExchange #BusinessGrowth

Vietnam is not exceptional getting the hit from the global inflation and China risk which tons of funds has been invested to real estate. Tequila and gin has been growing but we should look at the base volume if this is meaningful. The overall spirits have dropped which reflects the market has been too much hiked for years and now facing the era of stabilization. Cocktail culture is still not the mainstream, requires more time to develop. #Vietnam #Vietnamspiritsmarket
What just happened in the Vietnamese drinks industry? South East Asia's rising star just hit a major speed bump, reducing total bev-alc volumes by c.13% (2023 vs 2022). So, what are the key drivers at play here: 1. Macro-economic slowdown due to sluggish demand for its exports 2. A major government driven anti-corruption drive leading to the issuance of fewer business permits and reduced gifting that could be construed as bribery 3. The introduction of zero-tolerance drink drive legislation, which affects total volume consumption and channel/product choice 4. Fire safety regulations, closing down an unspecified but significant number of on-premise outlets This has created a perfect storm for bev-alc brand owners and the on-premise channel in particular. As always, there are however, some bright spots, with Gin, Tequila and Soju all delivering significant double digit growth. 2024 looks set to see some stabilisation in the market as the industry adapts to the new normal. To learn more, you can dig into the details via the IWSR global database, Vietnam market report - or contact me directly if you require company specific strategy support. #vietnam #spiritsindustry #beerindustry #soju #tequila #gin #marketresearch #strategy

Southeast Asia Emerges as a Key Market for Australian Wine 🍇 Australian wine exporters are setting their sights on Southeast Asia, where emerging wine markets in Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia present significant opportunities. Despite wine having a smaller share in the alcoholic beverages market, consumption in these countries is expected to grow over the next five years, in contrast to declining trends in established markets like Australia, the UK, and the US. 🚀 To capitalise on this growth, Wine Australia has launched a Southeast Asia Roadshow from 7 to 16 October 2024. In partnership with Austrade, the roadshow offers Australian wineries a platform to engage with importers, distributors, and media in these focus countries. Market briefings and capability-building activities will help participants understand local market dynamics, regulations, and business culture. 📊 Thailand and Vietnam are already showing strong potential for Australian wine. Thailand's wine consumption, largely dominated by imports, is rebounding post-pandemic, with Australian wine leading at 30% of the market share. Meanwhile, in Vietnam, wine tariffs have dropped significantly under trade agreements, opening doors for Australian exporters. Wine consumption in Vietnam is projected to grow by 3.8% per year until 2028. 📈 With favourable trade agreements and increasing demand, Australian wine exporters are well-positioned to tap into Southeast Asia’s booming markets. Future market bulletins from Wine Australia will provide further insights into the opportunities in the region. #AustralianWine #SoutheastAsia #WineIndustry #ExportGrowth #WineAustralia #WineTrade #WineExport

As one of the few halal industry advocates in Hong Kong, we are ready to share our insights and expertise to support the city in tapping into the lucrative halal market. Hong Kong has been slow to recognize the growing Muslim consumer market. For hoteliers and restaurant owners looking to cater to Muslim visitors, there are several key considerations: Ensure halal-certified food options are available throughout the day. This may require partnering with certified halal suppliers. Provide dedicated prayer facilities or quiet spaces for guests to perform their daily prayers, clearly marking the direction of Mecca. Offer amenities like ablution areas and design bathrooms with Muslim sensibilities in mind. Train staff to be knowledgeable about and respectful of Islamic customs and traditions. Advertise your halal-friendly offerings prominently to attract Muslim travelers and diners. By taking these steps, Hong Kong businesses can position themselves to capitalize on the growing global halal tourism market, which is estimated to reach $300 billion by 2026. We're ready to share more of our expertise to help the city become a premier destination for Muslim visitors. Our Managing Director, Sharifa Leung shared her views with SCMP in regards the scene from abroad. #sharifaleung #muslimfriendlyhongkong #gohalal https://lnkd.in/gpYrfcMx

Perhaps not the first country that wine producers think about when planning their growth strategy, but IWSR can confirm that Thailand is the fastest growing 'significant'* APAC market for still and sparkling wine at +5% and +12% respectively (2023 vs 2022). Australian, Chilean and French brands currently the primary beneficiaries. A strong increase in domestic consumer demand, Bangkok's thriving on-premise/restaurant scene, tourist numbers back to around 65% of 2019's peak levels, and favourable tax changes are all driving positive momentum. Super premium being the 'sweet spot' for profitable volume growth. Dig into the details in our latest in-depth market report or via the IWSR online platform! *Significant equates to +1m cases (still) and +100k cases (sparkling) #thailand #wineindustry #asiapacific #marketresearch #consumerinsights
