It's hard to avoid militarist expressions like "call to arms", "bring up the big guns", "shot(s) over the bows", "never again" or agressive or contaminated or emasculated words like "cut bait or fish", "whistling in the wind", etc when the objective is to shake "leaders" out of their comfort zones and take calls for "accelerated action along transformational/ transformative/ transformed pathways seriously. "enough is enough". Can global citizens explore the possibility of convening something like the IFCCC - to lead and guide an inter-generational, informed, well advised, evidence-based based dialogue over the next 3 months, so that instead of hearing the same patter, the United nations General Assembly will receive a forward looking 25 (NOT 15 year Strategy, Action Plan and targets based on essential steps to prevent repetition of another 1929 crash and 20 years of conflict to bring us back to our senses.

In this Off The Page episode, author Robin Visser discusses QUESTIONING BORDERS with host Li-Ping Chen. https://buff.ly/3SjRPzL Visser contrasts the dominant Han Chinese cosmology of center and periphery that informs what she calls “Beijing Westerns” with Indigenous and hybridized ways of relating to the world that challenge borders, binaries, and hierarchies. #ListenUP #OffThePage #Literature #LiteraryStudies #Ecoliterature #ChineseLiterature #TaiwaneseLiterature #China #Taiwan

How did the creation of globalized scientific discourses interact with the way states in the Pacific redefined national pasts and futures? My article “Oceanic Knowledge and National Space-Time in Pacific History” explores the uses of historical knowledge and environmental science in the construction of national pasts and futures in the Pacific since the 19th century. From Darwin’s observations on the temporality coral reef growth to native Hawaiian responses to evolution theory and geological arguments about space and future directions of the Japanese nation, my paper puts places and processes into a conversation that are rarely connected in the history of global science. The paper concludes with a reflection on present-day Tuvaluan efforts to curate future memories of a homeland likely to be flooded within few decades––underlining that the meanings of scientifically construed futures are ultimately positional and they inform how nation states redefine their claims over space and time. Indigenous Wisdom, Modern Impact 💬 Indigenous Languages and the Arctic: Policies, Practices, and Challenges “…I am very pleased to say that we are in the middle of rewriting our history from a Greenlandic point of view, basically decolonizing history and ensuring that the history that is more nuanced is being showcased, not only to Kalaallit (Greenlanders) but to the rest of the World."- Qivioq Løvstrøm, Assistant Professor, University of Greenland 🇬🇱 👂 https://lnkd.in/ejW3EF4A
