🌏 If you work with research in the AI space or tech in general and care about inclusion here is a must read: “Surveys Considered Harmful? Reflecting on the Use of Surveys in AI Research, Development, and Governance” (link in comments) One of the points in the paper that stood most out to me is the risk of surveys being designed from a Western centric perspective skewing the research results and hereby in the end the technology being designed. Thanks to Mohammad Tahaei, Ph.D. - one of the authors - for sharing the article with me.

I am delighted to share that the 27th edition of the Annual Review of Political Science is live and open access! It includes the article, Terra Incognita: The Governance of Artificial Intelligence in Global Perspective which is the culmination of months of research under Professor Allison Stanger alongside myself, Mitchell Schroder, Woojin Lim, and Jakob Kraus. The LLM challenge - an open source study to measure the LLM quality corridor that humans can detect - launched ~2 weeks ago. And it continues to gather interest. We now we have over 10k samples collected worldwide. "Progress without wisdom is not real progress". Wisdom versus intelligence in the deployment of AI? A central theme of last year's FARI Conference. How should the Brussels-Capital Region work towards a functional and inclusive AI policy? The time is now. Some recommendations: 1. Foster citizen engagement for an inclusive and beneficial AI ecosystem 2. Establish a unified framework for developing truly inclusive AI technologies 3. Implement Robust Safeguards and Guidelines for the Responsible use of AI Technologies in Critical Applications 4. Check out the latest work in JMD on establishing a human-AI workflow for evidence synthesis for global development. When designing evidence-based policies and programs, decision-makers must distill key information from a vast and rapidly growing literature base. Identifying relevant literature from raw search results is time and resource intensive and often done by manual screening. In this study, the authors develop an artificial intelligence (AI) agent based on a bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (BERT) model and incorporate it into a human team designing an evidence synthesis product for global development.
