Can commerical smallholder farmers produce for a highly competitive world market and make a decent living out of it? It is a crucial debate for the future of agriculture. In the case of citrus farmers in the value chain of The Fruit Republic in Vietnam, I have seen last week that smallholders indeed can. However, a supportive business environment and a strong international value chain partner may be crucial elements for its success. Elements that the public-private partnership programme SDGP can strenghten. Last week, I had the opportunity to visit the activities of The Fruit Republic in the Mekong Delta in Vietnam and meet several of the farmers and the partners of SDGP-programme SUCCEEDS. In the years to come, SUCCEEDS will support farmers in switching from rice farming to lime and pomelo for the domestic and international market. This will reduce the use of agrochemicals, fertiliser, fresh water and it substantively increases farmer incomes. 🛢 ⬇ 💰 ⬆ 📽 In the video below, the plans of SUCCEEDS are further explained by the applicant themselves: https://lnkd.in/egUbS7sa Thank you for showing us around Jeroen Pasman and Hiep Nguyen of The Fruit Republic and thank you Laura Ammerlaan of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) | Partner in Sustainable Development and agricultural counsellor Ingrid Korving for letting me join! #PublicPrivatePartnerships #SDGP #MekongDelta CAN THO UNIVERSITY, Rabo Foundation, Siebe Van Wijk, The Kingdom of the Netherlands in Vietnam.

💥 Win the War before it begun 💥 #FreeWestPapua #GreenStateVision Victory starts in the minds and hearts of the People! Our generation realise that everything is at stake, our country, our people, our culture, our resources, our environment, our region and the entire planet. Indonesia have not got one single good argument to defend whey Melanesian West Papua should be part of them, only based on lies and not a billion dollar is gonna change their lies into truth. (It would be same, to say Netherlands should still colonize Indonesia) West Papua is the largest tropical Island in the world and is the richest province of Indonesia. That's the only reason why colonial Indonesia, corporations and countries who support them are silent. Everyone is eating from West Papua. But it is our generation that will expose this Indonesian colonial project and end the genocide and ecocide which all is happening in West Papua. And when West Papua is free, we will lead the world by exampl, outplay all the greenwashing NGO's, corporations and countries who just do more harm to people and climate. The #Mekong Region is undergoing a profound agrarian transition. Innovative solutions are required. However, the prevalent focus on descriptive-analytical #research falls short in providing the tools to craft viable pathways towards sustainability. These pathways must not only bolster land governance but also champion the rights and needs of the region's 60 million smallholder farmers. The collection "The agrarian transition in the Mekong Region: pathways towards sustainable land systems”, published in the Journal of Land Use Science and led by #CDE scientists (Universität Bern), brings new science to bear on issues at the forefront of policy and practice. 👉 https://t.ly/8dzBp It features case studies showcasing promising approaches and solutions. The conceptual and analytical insights of these contributions have already produced numerous information materials that are deployed in discussions among decision makers in the region. This evidence informs dialogues as we seek, together, to negotiate a better future for the people of the Mekong. In the village of Menarbu, West Papua, Indonesia, the ocean is critical to survival. But overfishing and competition for resources put these waters under threat. To turn things around, the community turned to ancestral wisdom – embracing tradition passed down through generations. Helping to jump-start this initiative, Yayasan WWF Indonesia worked together with local people to protect their waters. Now, communities are continuing to take it forward. GrowPNG doing magnificient work in the Papua New Guinea, particularly in Agriculture Space. Of the many new initiatives that we want to consider to drive and elevate agriculture profile in PNG, we should look at what works and what's not working. Models that work should be embraced and considered for replicating and upscaling. We must not reinvent the wheel completely rather learn to grow from strength to strenght by addressing the gaps.
