Sovereignty is much more than a political promise. It is a powerful idea for Europe's future. 🇪🇺 Sovereignty must be demonstrated through technological excellence - like today's first launch of 🚀 #Ariane6 - because Europe's own access to space is a foundation for innovation and our progress. ➡️ Congratulations to the teams from all over the continent on this outstanding achievement! 👏👏👏 Another aspect of sovereignty: Europe must be able to stand up for its values and our free and democratic order. That is why we at MTU Aero Engines are working in partnership on projects such as the future air defense system #FCAS and the next generation of helicopters under #ENGRT. ✅️ Together, we are strengthening Europe's high-tech supply chain. Their capabilities reach far beyond the defense industry. This in turn will enable innovation in many areas. #goAriane6 #esa #DefenceMatters

The European Union must not be afraid to assert its strategic autonomy, thanks in part to the advantages it derives from its aerospace capabilities and through the strengthening of these capabilities; it must do what is necessary to maintain an innovative and sustainable industrial base, and it must equip itself with an external intervention capability to guarantee its security. ✔️The Air and Space Academy is ready to place its expertise, its European reach and its independence at the service of the development of these strategic axes, or indeed of any orientation that the European Commission may wish to study. ➡️𝙏𝙚𝙭𝙩𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙡: https://urls.fr/DWMvuN European Commission Parlement européen en France European Parliament European Space Agency - ESA EUSPA - EU Agency for the Space Programme Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation) International Civil Aviation Organization COMAC Direction Generale de l'Aviation Civile DGA - Direction générale de l'armement GIFAS - Groupement des Industries Françaises Aéronautiques et Spatiales Aerospace, Security and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD) Association Aéronautique et Astronautique de France (3AF) Deutsche Gesellschaft für Luft- und Raumfahrt - Lilienthal-Oberth e.V. The legendary SR-71 Blackbird that broke the speed and altitude barriers.” The SR-71 Blackbird, built by Lockheed Martin, is considered one of the greatest achievements in the history of military aviation. It was distinguished by its tremendous speed and ability to fly at high altitudes, which made it an unparalleled tool in reconnaissance and intelligence missions during the Cold War period. History of the aircraft Development of the SR-71 began in the late 1950s, at the height of the Cold War, as a response to the need for a reconnaissance aircraft that could evade Soviet air defenses. It made its first flight on December 22, 1964, and entered active service in the US Air Force in 1966. It served until 1998 when it was retired due to the high cost of operating and maintaining it, despite its amazing performance. Unique properties - Ultra-high speed: The SR-71 can fly at speeds of up to Mach 3.3, over 3,500 kilometers per hour, outpacing most other aircraft. - High Altitude: It can fly at altitudes of up to 85,000 feet, making it able to fly above most air defenses. - Advanced materials: Titanium makes up 85% of its structure, allowing it to withstand high temperatures resulting from high speeds. - Advanced engines: It is based on Pratt & Whitney J58 engines, which enable it to operate efficiently in extreme flight conditions. Multiple uses - Military reconnaissance: It was used to collect intelligence information with high accuracy thanks to its advanced sensors and cameras. - Scientific research: NASA used it to study aerodynamics and flight at high speeds, which contributed to the development of modern aviation technologies. Lasting effect The SR-71 became a symbol of technological progress and innovation, and greatly influenced the design of future aircraft. Her legacy remains a testament to the human ability to defy boundaries and achieve unprecedented achievements The SR-71 Blackbird is not just a flying machine; It is the embodiment of human ambition and the ability to innovate. Its extreme speed, high altitude, and technical features made it a legend in the world of aviation, and left an unforgettable mark in the history of military and scientific aviation. #Anis_Maaouia

The DLR Institute of Air Transport took part in #ODAS2024: the 24th joint ONERA-DLR #Aerospace Symposium in Braunschweig, Germany, organised by the DLR Programme Directorate of Aeronautics. ODAS 2024 celebrated 25 years of ONERA - The French Aerospace Lab and Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V. cooperation on rotorcraft research. The theme was "Very Short Range Passenger Air Transport," including rotorcraft and #AdvancedAirMobility, covering passenger air transport up to 500 km, both civil and military. ODAS is an annual event, hosted alternately by DLR and ONERA, with DLR hosting this year and ONERA hosting next year in France. Dr Marc Gelhausen from the DLR Institute of #AirTransport presented on "Long-term impact of limited airport capacity on passenger demand and fleet development up to 2050." Key points included: - Post-pandemic air traffic recovery - Tendency towards larger aircraft due to limited #Airport capacity - Importance of smaller aircraft for decentralised travel between smaller airports - Growing market for direct flights on low-demand routes, benefiting smaller aircraft We look forward to continued innovation in joint aerospace research! #AirTransportResearch
