“The #Mortgage Bankers Association and the #Community Home Lenders of America have #opposing opinions about the #Federal Housing Finance Agency’s #pilot to #waive lender’s #title insurance requirements for #certain refinances. In a #recent letter to #FHFA, the #MBA argued at #length that the #pilot inappropriately #infringes on “#primary mortgage market #activities.” In #part, that’s because #title insurance is #part of the #origination process. Meanwhile, #CHLA, which #represents small/midsize lenders, #supports the #pilot, noting that it will #save homeowners “a #significant amount of #money in #closing costs on their #refinance.” The #pilot is still being #developed. #Fannie Mae noted #late last week that it #plans to #issue a #request for #proposals to #identify technology #suppliers to #participate in the #pilot by the #end of #June.”
