The higher the Delta E, the more different the two shades are. Colour matching is referred to as a 'plus or minus' measure in the coatings industry. Paint can be tinted to achieve a desired colour. The tinting process uses a database of colour formulas that a machine applies to each can individually. Tinted products may have slight variations between batches due to factors like temperature and tint-base strength, but these are generally acceptable within the industry. However, some projects demand specific colours with high colour consistency across different substrates.
