What a great article that gets your mind going!
The debate over hockey’s cultural epicenter—Canada or the USA—is a fascinating one. Both countries bring unique strengths to the game. Canada has the deep-rooted tradition and unwavering passion that make hockey feel like a national identity, with generations of superstars like Crosby, McDavid, and Bedard keeping the country at the forefront.
Meanwhile, the U.S. is redefining the way #hockey connects with fans, leveraging entertainment, storytelling, and growing markets like Vegas, Seattle, and Utah to expand the game’s reach.
The rise of women’s hockey and dynamic players on both sides, like Matthews and the Tkachuk brothers, show how the sport is evolving to be more inclusive and exciting than ever.
Ultimately, it’s not about competition but collaboration in growing the sport. The future of hockey is exciting, and both nations are essential to shaping its next chapter.
What do you think—has the U.S. taken the lead, or does Canada still own hockey’s heart and soul?

With the NHL 4 Nations Face-Off on the horizon, we took to our North American offices to drop the puck on the debate: Is hockey still Canada’s game or is the USA now defining the future of the sport?

It's time for a lesson in the #ScienceofHockey brought to you by the Science Center of Iowa! How is a goalie's success measured?
Save percentage is one way goalies are evaluated. A goalie's save percentage is calculated by their total number of saves recorded divided by the total number of shot attempts taken on that goalie. Above a .900 or 90% is typically considered "good" for hockey goalies.

Check out my new piece in The Hockey News on Father David Bauer, the priest who founded the Canadian National Hockey Team.
It's in 4/22 issue & also online in their archive (behind paywall--if you are hockey fan, the Hockey News archive is an incredible resource): https://lnkd.in/e9tb4a7W
For much more on Father Bauer, read Matt Hoven's FANTASTIC new biography of him, "Hockey Priest."
Wait... this isn't how it normally works?!?! Honestly, it's a great story that shouldn't be a story, it should be the norm!
➡ Less than one percent of high school athletes go on to play D1 basketball.
➡ 2.5% of US male high school hockey players made it to NCAA Division I schools
It's an amazing accomplishment for any athlete to play division 1 sports (D2 or even D3 as well).
We should be teaching these kids to celebrate the accomplishment of being where they are more and more. We should be doing exactly what Drexel Athletes are doing!!
High school teams should do this more and more.
Youth sport teams should do this more.
➡ ➡ Co-workers should do this more!!!!
Build a culture, the rest will follow.

Who is the biggest fan of Drexel University Men's Basketball? Drexel Men's Ice Hockey! 🏒 🤝 🏀
The two teams have formed a unique bond as members of the club men's ice hockey team attend every men's basketball game to cheer on their fellow Dragons. Their dedication to hype and bringing the Dragon energy to the court side caught the attention of head coach, Zach Spiker. Now, the teams support each other through wins and losses, united by their shared school spirit.
"When you come back for your 20th anniversary, we're going to be Drexel Dragons at the end of the day," said David Wagstaff, Drexel Ice hockey president and general manager. "It's not going to be so much, 'he played basketball, he played ice hockey,' but we're all just Dragons for life."

My drawing skills could use some work (haha), but for the past few years, this has been one of my favourite drills to run!
We run this drill with the Calgary Canucks Jr. A Team a couple times per week. We always start the drill with two touch passes and then progress to one touch passes. Then we change directions to make sure players receive and give on both their forehands and their backhands.
My favourite part of this drill is how easily it is to regress or progress the drill to adjust for the age and skill of your players. You can do this drill with U7 all the way to Pro.
Regressions and variations (to name a few):
- Make the square smaller
- Have the players stop in the middle to make it a station pass/receive.
- Stop and face the passer instead of a leading pass to always catch the pass and give the pass on the forehand. Progress to backhand when appropriate.
Progressions and variations (to name a few):
- Make the square bigger
- Two touch passes then progress to one touch passes
- BH receive and give, FH receive and give, BH receive FH give, FH receive BH give. Set these rules for the players in line as well.
- Dirty passes (picking up with feet or behind the player)
- Sauce passes
- Add stationary or moving obstacles for players in line to have to find seems
- Knock down passes in the air (this one would be really tough and might be challenging to get flow going with the drill)
Can anyone think of other variations or regressions/progressions? Would love to hear them!

Often with hockey and other sports, we discuss who we think the "Mount Rushmore" is for a given team, or even an entire sport. But what about JERSEYS? I mean, how do you choose just 4 from the NHL's 100+ year history? Well, that's what we took a shot at in our latest video! Let us know what you think belong on the Jersey Rushmore. https://lnkd.in/gfXgi9ft
