🌟 I asked 10 Analyst Relations leaders one simple question: “What early career mistake will you never make again?” The result: 4 profound mistakes everyone (from interns to executives) should avoid in their career. Mistake 1: Overlooking the importance of relationship-building Too often, analyst relations professionals choose to focus solely on delivering reports and data. Instead, they should be focused on building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders. This is what ends up making the biggest difference. Mistake 2: Ignoring the competitive landscape A good analyst relations professional can identify market trends. A bad one can misinterpret data and mislead the strategy. But a legendary one can provide insights that drive the company’s strategic direction. Hiring Insight This week, I was struck by a conversation I had with a Controller seeking a new job opportunity. He shared that when he was hiring for his team, he was juggling his role responsibilities and managing being short-handed. Because of this, his focus was solely on finding the right hire, leaving little room to deeper involvement in the hiring process. Now that he is job searching, he realizes the deep value that communication plays in the hiring process. He said that the next time he is able to hire, he will make sure that candidates receive timely feedback throughout each step of the process. #hiring #communication #feedback

I just chatted with an IT manager who hired an entry level analyst and they weren't even interested in actual work experience. What they actually cared about was: 1) Positive energy (shocker!) 2) Pet projects/social initiatives 3) How the candidate makes decisions & articulates relevant concepts 4) How they handle feedback (I found this one interesting) 5) Super bonus points for those who have built an audience/community on social media (It's all about what people in an industry would want access to that equates to leverage) They also told me that they HATED when candidates "tried to look super serious during interviews as if they were a VP of something" and that they'd prefer to interview someone who speaks broken english than someone who acts like someone they aren't.
