The rise in Minimally Invasive Surgery techniques is something worth celebrating.... But what are some of the benefits? 🏥   Faster recovery times mean patients are able to leave hospitals quicker and get back to their normal lives. In times where hospital waiting list are getting longer and longer surely shorter hospital stays can only be a good thing?   These smaller incisions not only leave less scaring for those more vein among us, but also lead to less post surgery discomfort and, with smaller entry points for bacteria, a reduction in infection risk.   I believe minimising surgical trauma in Orthopaedics is a win-win for both patients and medical professionals. 🔍 Understanding Surgical Modifiers: 76, 77, 78, and 79 🔍 Modifiers 76 and 77 are used for repeat procedures, while modifiers 78 and 79 apply to related or unrelated procedures performed during the postoperative period. ➡️ Modifier 76: Repeat Procedure by the Same Physician Used when the same provider repeats the same procedure on the same day (e.g., a second X-ray for better visualization). ➡️ Modifier 77: Repeat Procedure by Another Physician Applies when a different provider repeats the procedure on the same day (e.g., a follow-up EKG by another doctor). ➡️ Modifier 78: Unplanned Return to the Operating Room Used for related complications that require the patient to return to the OR during the postoperative period (e.g., surgical intervention for postoperative bleeding). ➡️ Modifier 79: Unrelated Procedure During the Postoperative Period Indicates a new, unrelated procedure by the same physician during the postoperative period (e.g., performing an appendectomy while the patient is still in recovery from knee surgery). Cataract surgeons have a multitude of options in their armamentarium for IOL implantation.1-8 Some of these, such as the use of endocapsular anchoring rings and segments have an inherent advantage of being able to preserve the capsular bag, and therefore, maintain the barrier between the anterior and posterior segments. Further, the use of Cionni modified capsular tension ring (MCTR) 9,10,11 and Ahmed capsule tension segments (CTS) to fixate the capsular bag also allow IOL implantation in its most desirable position, which is the capsular bag. #Ophthalmology #Ophthotwitter #Scicomm

Multi-ligament knee injury is a challenge to every sports medicine surgeon .. you find your self facing many questions.. - Should I stage it ? - What kind of fixation methods should one prepare ? - How about Tunnel convergence ? This is a 35 ys old gentleman with left knee ACL, MCL, LCL tear .. * ACL complete tear with lachman positive, Anterior drawer +3 * MCL mid substance tear with valgus stress +3 * LCL Tear with +2 varus stress test .. Notice that the Pivot Shift was negative because of the complete tear of the MCL I decided to do a Single stage surgery , using the peroneus Longus tendon for the ACL graft , Semitendinosus for the MCL GRraft , Gracilis for the LCL Graft .. I Started with the Arthroscopic part of the surgery making the femoral and tibial tunnels * Next I performed the Collateral's reconstruction starting with the MCL in a minimally invasive fashion using two interfere screws 8* 28 Arthrex.. * Then I performed Larson LCL reconstruction with single interference screw 8*28 Arthrex.. * Then I passed my ACL Graft and fixed it with Tightrope and Interfere screw 10* 28 Arthrex Remember to always check your tunnel convergence before passing the grafts..
