Today marks the beginning of an extraordinary journey as AFPST Athlete Jonny Huntington launches his South Pole trek! Set to kick off in just a few weeks, Jonny is on a mission to make history as the first disabled person to conquer this grueling expedition entirely unsupported. We couldn't be prouder of Jonny as he prepares to push boundaries and inspire us all with his remarkable determination and resilience. Jonny's path to the South Pole started with AFPST, where he found his passion for nordic skiing following a stroke. His journey has been nothing short of incredible, from mastering the snowy tracks, to conquering challenges off the snow like the South West coastal pathway and kayaking from Lands End to John O’Groats. As Jonny embarks on this monumental challenge, we are filled with admiration for his unwavering dedication and relentless spirit. There are no shortcuts to success, just sheer hard work and a steadfast commitment to achieving the impossible. We are privileged to have witnessed Jonny's extraordinary progress and are wholeheartedly behind him as he takes on this epic adventure. Let's show our support for Jonny by donating to the four charities he is fundraising for during his trek, including AFPST. Jonny, we believe in you every step of the way. Wishing you the best of luck on your historic journey! 💕✨ #JonnyTakesOnTheSouthPole #AimHighAndAchieve #InspirationInProgress 🌏🔝 Donate and follow Jonny's journey here: https://lnkd.in/es-DQ6Ki.

Over the next few months I’ll be doing a fair few races - namely a 124km bike race, a triathlon, and two half marathons (one road and one trail). I’ve chosen to support the charity, the Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID). It all starts tomorrow and finishes on the 10th of November. Wish me luck. #RNID

I thought cycling across the USA was an achievement until I met Greg Collins in a bar in New York. He told me he is going to row across the Atlantic unassisted. Cycling for 36 days and taking on the hills of the Rockies and the Apalachians suddenly seemed a pretty tame effort compared to the mid Atlantic storms in a small rowing boat. All these ventures need financial support so if you can help Greg with sponsorship please contact him at greg.collins@jpreis.com He is raising money for two great charities The Matt Hampson Foundation and the Essex and Herts air Ambulance. Safe journey Greg, you have my respect.

July Monthly Update- 14,000 steps a day for a year in aid of The Archie Foundation. Time for my July update already! This will be fairly text heavy update as I don't have many pictures of me out on walks - it's been quite wet during a lot of my walks this month. As always, thanks to those who have donated. Although I'm past my target, I'd love to reach the next step of raising £1000. Link to donate is below as always. Achievements for this month include going past 3,000,000 steps for the year and going over 400km in the month for only the second time. I have now completed 66% of my target distance and for those keeping track you will find my mapped route below. To mark the Olympic marathon taking place on the 10th of August, I figured I would categorise my walking in marathons. To date, I have completed 64.8 marathons, just over 9 per month on average and roughly one every 3 1/2 days. So when you ask me how I am and I respond 'knackered' then this is why! Next milestone will be 3000km! https://lnkd.in/eSC9XujD

While the dust settles on what was an extraordinary few days, I will try to sum up a few things I have learned (or re-learned). 1. No matter the pain or torment in the journey, the result far outweighs everything else. 2. True grit is found in the hardest of situations. 3. You learn more about people when they are thrown into tough situations. 4. A deep connection is made when a hard battle is fought together. 5. You cannot expect ‘you’ from other people. 6. Do not judge until you know all the facts (or at least a bit more!). 7. Your emergency is not anyone else’s emergency. 8. Hard effort is rewarded. 9. Mother Nature is in charge. 10. No one can ever take away your achievement. I watched 4 young people (aged 16 - 19) take on a challenge they had been training for since April. In lakes in very cold and miserable conditions. A testing sea training session. But nothing can prepare you for the actual event. The nerves / excitement. The pressure to perform. The more challenging conditions. The dark. The sea sickness. The relentless need to push beyond an invisible force. The need to keep going when the end seems to have been in sight for so long. The physical pain caused by your costume rubbing. The desire for steady ground beneath your feet. A lot of things can be prepared for and as a parent you can pack bags for every eventuality. But in reality, when you are not there and have not done what your hero daughter has done, you have to know that she did her best. Beyond anything anyone would expect. They made it. They were all relieved it was over. They have succeeded against some very tough conditions. And having written all that, I still find it hard to put into words how utterly proud I am of the team, how thankful I am to the skipper / crew looking after them all on the boat and to their coach for getting them through. Team, daughter, you are my heroes. Remember: pain goes, glory lives on forever. More to come from me on this. Please keep the donations coming - their effort deserves so much more as a result. This is great advice.
Who is your Pam? In 2006 I signed up for the USA National Ultra Marathon Championship. NOTE: You didn’t have to qualify back then. I was like….I can race in a National Championship for a $65 registration fee? I’m in. I did it for charity and I raised over $1 million. I HAD NO CLUE WHAT I WAS DOING (look at my running gear) in the race. Enter Pam Reed Pam is an ultramarathon LEGEND. Badwater winner. A pioneer of the sport. She was having a bad day because of a personal issue and was about to drop out at mile 30. At that point she passed me as the course was a one mile loop. I stopped her and made her an offer… if she stayed with me the whole race and coached me (and I finished) I’d donate money to her charity of choice. She agreed. I knew I needed Pam because she had done this distance so many times before. She had seen it all. She could guide me through the tough spots ahead. I finished the race in 22 hours with Pam by my side. No Pam…no finish. Moral: 1. Seek the advice of those those that have actually DONE IT already. 2. Don’t be scared to ask for help. 3. Create “no lose” offers. 4. Set BIG goals…commit…THEN find a way. 5. No matter what…finish. Tag your Pam.

I initially started Podium Racing to build the best multi-sport coaching platform in the world. Then, when I learned that supertri was franchising their teams, I raised seed capital to purchase a team license. The goal was to create a winning, high performance team that would serve as a flywheel for the promotion and growth of the coaching platform while also giving next-generation athletes the opportunity to race at the highest level of the sport. This was crystalized for me after having my initial conversation with Zuzana Michalickova (Slovakian athlete ranked top 50 in the world). During my conversation with Zuzana, she said she "will" race for supertri. Not, "can I" or " how can I" race for the Podium Racing supertri team...rather, a straightforward declaration that she will race for us. While I am positive that the directness was, in part, due to language translation issues, Zuzana's passion, focus and lazer-sharp motivation was clear. As the conversation progressed, I learned that Zuzana did not have a wetsuit. While I appreciate Zuzana not letting equipment get in her way, I was shocked that an athlete would be competing in World Triathlon Cup events without the basic equipment that seemingly every other athlete, at that level, has. Within a week and with our sailfish partnership, we were able to get Zuzana a new Ultimate IPS Plus 3 wetsuit. My interaction with Zuzana made it clear that our mission is bigger and was a motivating force behind launching Podium Foundation - the charitable arm of Podium Racing. I have now come to realize that Podium Foundation is the most important part of our platform. Reducing barriers for next-generation athletes, including paratriathletes and neurodiverse athletes, is the most important impact we can have. To that end, we have decided to donate a portion of the proceeds from all coaching fees, product sales (e.g. cycling kits), and team sponsorship funds to the foundation. Our goal for 2025 is to find investors, partners and donors who share the belief that athletes who dream big and put in the work should be able to focus on the process and not on the finances. https://lnkd.in/gfifnkbr
On this Giving Tuesday, please consider a donation to our charitable arm, Podium Foundation. We are committed to raising funds and providing grants to elite athletes such as Zuzana so that they can focus on "finding their podiums" and not on financials. As we start the next olympic cycle, focused on LA 2028, these next generation athletes have opportunities to represent the sport of triathlon in force! ✨ Donations can be made directly on the Podium Foundation website. https://lnkd.in/eZ3DrpsR ✨ ⭐️Zuzana Michalickova is a talented triathlete who recently earned a silver medal in the U23 World Championships in Spain. She is currently ranked #41 in the world and has the tenacity needed to dream big!

Hopefully, this is a video of the very last time Tom has to deploy his para-anchor! 🪂 • We've mentioned it a few times, but the para-anchor is an underwater parachute on the end of a really really long line that's connected to the front of the boat. Tom can deploy this when the winds are against him and he's not able to make any progress. Once deployed the drag from the parachute turns the boat into the conditions, and drastically reduces how far he is pushed backwards, whilst he waits for the winds to stop. 💨 • He's had to use this quite a few times recently, but the weather forecasts are indicating that he may get winds going in (roughly) the right direction from tomorrow. 🌬️ • If you check his tracker (download the YB Races app and search Mindoarmatter if you haven't already!) you'll see that the ETA is late on the 20th August, to early on the 21st August - and with the upcoming weather forecasts taken into account that's actually about right at this stage. So if you're planning on coming to Penzance to welcome him in, that's the kind of time we think he may make it in. 👍 • HOWEVER - one puff of wind in the wrong direction, even a day before landing, will change this, ocean rowing is nothing if not unpredictable, and that is true right up to the landing! 😬 • A huge boost to the fundraising has seen over £1,200 raised in just 24 hours! This brings us to £44,767 - £233 short of £45k, which is 90% of the target! If you've enjoyed following this absolutely INCREDIBLE journey - please donate as generously as you can afford to, today. 🙏 • The donation link is: https://lnkd.in/e55nzqnz 🌐 • A huge thank you to all of Tom's sponsors who have helped make this amazing challenge possible: - Gold sponsors: Everlast Gyms Tritax Symmetry Tritax Big Box REIT plc - Silver sponsors: VW&S Group BOOM POWER - Bronze sponsors: Immobilier du Pont - Le Châble Hotel Farinet Verbier • #mindoarmatter #atlanticrow #atlantic #oceanrow #mind #mindcharity #mentalhealth #Tritaxbigbox

🧩✨ #AutismAwareness Top 36 Golf Course Rankings: Post 24 - Course #13⛳️ 🧩 💰 DONATE - Please help us get there by donating $36 today: https://lnkd.in/e4MFcQfd To represent the 1 in 36 kids affected by Autism in the US, I will be counting down my Top 36 Golf Courses that I have ever played with a short story/memory for each. If you could please consider donating $36 (or more) to Els for Autism via the link above, I would appreciate it ❤️ Golf Course #13 - Yeamans Hall Club Is it possible to capture the beauty, history, and vibe of an entire state into a single golf course? For the state of South Carolina, I believe Yeamans Hall does just that. Sitting just 12 miles from downtown Charleston and designed by one of my favorites, Seth Raynor, in 1924, Yeamans Hall sits on land that used to be the site of a 17th century plantation owned by the Yeamans family. When the country club was founded, it was built to attract wealthy northern financial men to Charleston in the fall and winter with 200-300 house sites. Today, it continues to be a successful private club with what I imagine to be one of the toughest waiting lists to add your name to in the country. What makes Yeamans Hall my favorite in South Carolina? People have asked me when making this list what criteria I’ve used, and it really comes down to three things: 1) The feeling you have when playing it, 2) How well you can remember each hole after the round, and 3) How badly you want to tee it up again on #1 after tapping in on #18. Maybe I’m biased because I grew up in SC, but for me, I’ve never played a course which puts me in a calmer/happier mental state and one where I want to tee it up again on #1 after I’m finished than Yeamans. It’s just such a fun course to play! If you have had the pleasure of playing it, I’m curious to hear if you enjoyed it as much as me ⛳️
