When employer branding is taken a step further 😏
A few years ago, while looking for a required internship for my university, I was surprised to find that most roles were unpaid, undervalued, and sometimes involved making coffee for colleagues. Today, we are excited to announce the best internship in Morocco @ Welovebuzz. As an intern, you'll be paid 10,000 MAD per month for three months, have your coffee made by me, and learn a LOT with an incredible team. Apply with a video: stage.welovebuzz.com PS: Let me know if you spotted our billboards in Casablanca or radio spot!

Why is the cultural heritage field still offering unpaid internships? Do we not value the work of emerging professionals? There is a cost to being an intern. I'm not talking about the institutional cost of hosting an intern, I'm talking about the costs incurred by an intern. Interns have standard bills to pay - lodging, food, utilities, etc.. Some interns also pay for their own healthcare. Other interns are required to do internships for their academic program, and therefore pay for academic credits. Some interns relocate for 1-3 months in order to do an internship, incurring additional relocation costs and potentially having to carry the burden of two rental agreements. In the case of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre internships, interns are also expected to pay for flight and procure their own work visa. These costs add up. How can we expect interns to conservatively pay $5,000+* for an unpaid opportunity? How can we cultivate an equitable cultural heritage field if we undervalue the workers? +It's worth noting that if an intern takes out a loan to cover the costs of their unpaid internship, the cost will continue to rise over time with interest rates. Some individuals may be paying for that internship for years. *Don't believe me? - check out this research from 2016 on the cost of being an intern: https://lnkd.in/gAmTK3mg

*One Month at Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce: Reflections* As I complete my first month as an intern at the Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce, I am filled with gratitude and excitement for the journey. This experience has been incredibly enriching, and I’d like to share some insights and advice for those looking to make the most of their internships. 🔑 Create a Position for Yourself: Don’t wait for opportunities to come to you; create them. From day one, look for ways to add value. Offer your help without hesitation, even if it means stepping out of your comfort zone. Being proactive helps you learn more and shows your initiative and dedication. 📚 Embrace Learning: Internships are a golden opportunity to learn and grow. Last week, I had the exciting opportunity to release my first Chambers newsletter with the guidance of my lovely and generous colleague, Kimberly Plumley . I also wrote press releases and designed social media creatives, which were appreciated and published. The confidence I have gained from these learning experiences has been invaluable. The more you learn, the more valuable you become to the team. 🤝 Observe and Offer Help: Pay attention to how your colleagues work and identify areas where you can assist. Offering help when needed builds trust and showcases your team spirit. I've learned that collaboration and willingness to support others are critical to a thriving work environment. 💪 Build Confidence: One of the most rewarding aspects of my internship has been the confidence I’ve gained. Every task I complete, every problem I solve, and every positive feedback I receive builds my confidence. This, in turn, motivates me to take on new challenges and responsibilities. ❤️ Love What You Do: Working at the Chamber has been a fantastic experience. I love the vibrant atmosphere, the supportive team, and the sense of community. This passion for my work drives me to give my best every day. To all the aspiring interns out there, remember that your internship is what you make of it. Be proactive, eager to learn, and ready to help. This mindset will make your internship more rewarding and set a solid foundation for your future career. Attached is just the front page of the Newsline- you can subscribe to our newsletter by visiting our website, The Nanaimo Chamber, or by clicking https://lnkd.in/gjpYmvSz Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce #Internship #LearningAndGrowing #ProfessionalDevelopment #Teamwork #CommunityEngagement #NanaimoChamber #CareerAdvice

Navigating an international internship is not just about landing the position; it's about thriving in it. Imagine stepping into a bustling office in a new country, eager to contribute yet unsure of your role. This was my experience during my first international internship. I quickly realized that good communication was the bridge to a successful journey. I found myself in an environment where language barriers and cultural differences added layers of complexity. Instead of staying silent, I decided to take the lead in initiating conversations. Asking questions, seeking feedback, and clarifying tasks were essential in understanding my responsibilities and feeling connected to my team. The transformation was incredible. I gained clarity, and my initiative led to more meaningful work and stronger connections with my colleagues. If you're heading into an international internship, remember that communication is your greatest ally. Don't hesitate to establish that connection. It will enrich your experience beyond measure. Are you ready to make your internship count? Start by opening the lines of communication! Link in comments

Update: This internship, like I've said countless times, has been incredible! I've done all kinds of things across the business, like preparing jackets and goodies for people coming from the Asian and Pacific areas to meet with us or organizing service opportunities for the company! Some skills I've learned during my time here are time management, brainstorming and autonomy. I feel that working here has made me even more careful about time management/scheduling because there are deadlines and so much to do with only so many hours that I'm here. I definitely feel like this has strengthened not only my team working skills, but also has introduced me to more autonomy and keeping myself busy and helping out without needing to be told.
