🌟 Review of E-Waste World 2024 in Frankfurt 🌟 We're pleased and inspired to look back on the E-Waste World Conference & Expo 2024, held two weeks ago at Messe Frankfurt. The increasing popularity of the event reflects the growing importance of e-waste (WEEE), the world's fastest growing waste stream. During the show, we had the opportunity to exchange ideas with market players, as engaged dialogue remains essential to drive recycling forward. We also showcased our solutions for highly complex sorting tasks, such as the effective removal of brominated plastics using sensor-assisted sorting. This enables us to re-use recyclable plastics. A key highlight was the panel talk "Tackling WEEE Plastics: Design to Recycling Phases", in which Dr. Stefan H. made an appeal to producers and distributors: The aspect of "design for recycling" must be given greater consideration. In this way, we can improve the recyclability of products in particular and return secondary raw materials to the material cycle more efficiently. 🌟 Innovation to boost the recycling of #packaging #plastics! 🌟 At ITENE we are leading the development of new delamination processes for post-consumer flexible packaging with multilayer structure in the framework of the European project MERLIN (#Horizon2020), coordinated by our research center. As the project coordinator, our expert César Aliaga, explained in a webinar on March 27, at ITENE, we are developing disruptive processes for the sorting, delamination and recycling of multilayer rigid and flexible plastic packaging with a circular economy model. Puffing is usually associated with the #ingredients and #breakfastcereal market. However, there are other applications for the technology one of which is #biogranulates for #sustainable #packaging solutions. From the cooperation between Mexican firm Soisa Aircraft Interiors and CEREX AG, a truly sustainable novelty in the aviation industry has emerged using biogranulates; the worlds first organic and sustainable armrest created from waste puffed corn grits. This represents a significant milestone in Soisa’s dedication to sustainability and innovation as the aerospace industry intensifies its focus on sustainable practices to minimise their environmental footprint. Armrests are traditionally manufactured from polyethylene foam, which results in nearly 2,600 kg of CO2 emissions annually. By moving to a biodegradable material derived from corn waste, an eco-friendly, non-food, fast growing resource that actually absorbs CO2 during growth, Soisa will help the industry significantly reduce its carbon footprint.
