The proposed Virar to Nariman Point Coastal Road is an ambitious infrastructure project aimed at reducing travel time between Virar and South Mumbai. This project would likely involve a combination of coastal roads, tunnels, and bridges, offering a faster alternative to existing road and rail routes. Here are some key aspects of the Virar to Nariman Point Coastal Road project: 1. Route: The coastal road will connect Virar in the northern suburbs with Nariman Point in South Mumbai, passing through several major points along the western coastline. 2. Reduced Travel Time: Once completed, this road is expected to cut travel time significantly, potentially bringing the trip down from 2-3 hours (by train or road) to around an hour. 3. Improved Connectivity: It will enhance connectivity between Mumbai’s suburbs and the central business district, benefiting daily commuters, including people traveling for business. 4. Cost and Phases: The project is expected to be built in phases due to its size and cost. The final budget and completion date are still under consideration, as it involves a large-scale construction effort. 5. Environmental and Social Impact: Coastal road projects like this need environmental clearances, as they can impact marine and coastal ecosystems. This coastal road could transform Mumbai's commuting experience, benefiting residents in Virar and beyond. For regular local train commuters like you, it may offer a faster, more comfortable travel option if implemented successfully. The Chennai-Bangalore Expressway, spanning 262 km and constructed at a cost of Rs. 17,000 crores, is a significant milestone under the Bharatmala Pariyojna – a project aimed at fostering road infrastructure and prosperity. Thanks to this expressway, you can now travel between Chennai and Bangalore in just 2.5 hours, marking a major development in transportation. This initiative falls under the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways and is part of the Bharatmala Pariyojna, which was launched on July 31, 2015 – now nine years ago. The Bharatmala Pariyojna, meaning 'India Garland Project,' is an ambitious initiative by the Government of India aimed at improving the country’s road and highway infrastructure. The project’s goal is to connect 550 district headquarters (up from the current 300) with at least 4-lane highways, increasing the number of transportation corridors from 6 to 50. It also aims to shift 80% of freight traffic (currently 40%) to National Highways by linking 24 logistics parks, 66 inter-corridors (IC) spanning 8,000 km, and 116 feeder routes (FR) covering 7,500 km, along with the development of 7 multi-modal waterway ports in the northeast. The project includes the construction of tunnels, bridges, elevated corridors, flyovers, overpasses, interchanges, bypasses, and ring roads to ensure the shortest, most efficient, and congestion-free connectivity. This centrally-funded road and highway development project is intended to optimize connectivity across India.

Tranformative' boost to India's infrastructure landscape! The Union Cabinet on Friday approved eight major national high-speed road corridor projects of 936 km length to be built at a total capital cost of Rs 50,655 crore. One major project will be part of Bengal “Kharagpur-Moregram Corridor” a 231 long road that will be built on HAM (Hybrid Annuity Mode). Any Infrastructure development in a state is the foundation for a country's economic prosperity and is critical for improving the quality of life of its citizens. The Kharagpur to Moregram corridor will transform Bengal’s socio-economic landscape and on completion we will see some big industries coming and settling their plants at this region. The government has adopted a corridor-based highway infrastructure development approach with focus on ensuring consistent standards, user convenience and logistics efficiency, as compared to the earlier project-based development approach, focused on addressing stretches of local congestion which will significantly enhance connectivity between the southern and northern parts of Bengal, boosting trade, tourism, and economic activities.

“Road infrastructure is the backbone of India’s economy and society.” Yes, you heard me right. Roads are the lifelines of India. They connect our people, markets, and resources. It helps the education industry by connecting villages. That’s why we need a strong and efficient road infrastructure system in India. The Government of India has launched many amazing projects to improve our road network. Some of these are: ➻Bharatmala Pariyojana: A mega project to build 65,000 km of national highways across India, especially in economic corridors, border areas, and remote regions. ➻Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY): A rural road scheme to link all villages with a population of 500 or more with all-weather roads. ➻Setu Bharatam: A project to build or upgrade bridges on national highways to ensure smooth and safe traffic. ➻National Highway Development Project (NHDP): A project to widen, upgrade, and maintain existing national highways, and also construct expressways, greenfield corridors, and ring roads. These projects will have a huge impact on India’s economic growth by: ➻Reducing the cost and time of transportation and making our products and services more competitive in domestic and global markets. ➻Improving the connectivity and integration of different regions and states, and creating a sense of national unity and pride. ➻Creating jobs and income for millions of people, especially in the construction, transportation, and tourism sectors. ➻Improving the quality of life and well-being of the people, by providing better access to education, health, and social services, and also reducing pollution, accidents, and congestion. Road infrastructure is the road to progress for India. Let’s follow it and drive safely. #roadways #roadconstruction #roadsafety

Government To Follow The Road Corridors Approach The Union Cabinet’s August 2 approval for eight high-speed roads, spanning a length of 936 km and entailing investment of Rs 50,655 crore, is part of this new strategy. As the Bharatmala Pariyojana—the umbrella programme launched by the Centre in 2017 to develop 74,942 km of national highways that is seeing massive cost and time overrun, the Modi government has modified its strategy according to which the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) will identify individual road corridors and take them up for approval and implementation. The Union Cabinet’s August 2 approval for eight high-speed roads, spanning a length of 936 km and entailing investment of Rs 50,655 crore, is part of this new strategy. The road ministry has identified 20 proposed corridors that will be approved by December 2024. These include the 783 km long Kharagpur-Cuttack-Visakhapatnam corridor; the 281 km Guwahati-Shillong-Silchar corridor passing through Assam and Meghalaya; the 68 km long Bhavnagar-Bharuch corridor in Gujarat; and the 335 km Mangaluru-Bengaluru corridor in Karnataka, among others. According to senior officials in the ministry and the NHAI, the decision to go for a corridor-based approach instead of launching an umbrella programme is the fallout of the arbitrary implementation of Phase I of the Bharatmala programme. There were several lapses which were also highlighted by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) in its report last year. Of the 34,800 km approved under Phase I of Bharatmala at a cost of Rs 5.35 lakh crore, 26,425 km in projects have been awarded so far. Out of this, only 18,180 km length has been completed at a cost of approximately Rs 5 lakh crore—almost equal to the total project cost, the second road ministry official quoted above said. The remaining 8,000 km of Phase I have been shelved. The original deadline to complete the 34,800 km was September 2022. The official quoted above said that not only has the completion deadline not been met but the overall cost of the project has also escalated close to Rs 10 lakh crore. The government has already decided to scrap Phase II of the Bharatmala programme that envisaged developing 40,000 km more of national highways. The road ministry in June—soon after the new government was formed—moved a Cabinet note seeking approval for a new flagship programme to develop 30,600 km of highways by 2031-2032 for Rs 22 lakh crore. It was, however, rejected by the finance ministry. Ministry of Road Transport & Highways - India
