Ever had one of those moments where everything you've built feels like it's on shaky ground? I've been there, and recently, a fellow entrepreneur shared that she's winding down her business—a decision that really hit home. It's a story I'm hearing more often, making me reflect on the challenging climate we're all facing in the design industry. In a recent conversation with Katharina Köth, we talked about the shifts we're seeing, especially with GenAI becoming an integral part of our toolkit. It's fascinating how this technology is streamlining routine tasks, freeing up time and resources. But with that, we're confronted with a crucial question: What happens to the heart and soul of design? While GenAI is handling the nuts and bolts, the true art of our work—the creation of meaningful, authentic brand and product experiences—is something that only designers can deliver. In a world increasingly flooded with generated content, standing out with genuine, high-quality work is more important than ever. Yes, these changes are challenging. But they also present a unique opportunity to rethink, adapt, and push the boundaries of what's possible. It's a chance to double down on what we do best—connecting with audiences on a deeper level and crafting designs that truly resonate.

Hey Designers & Changemakers! 🌍✨ I just emerged from an incredibly inspiring session led by the legendary Don Norman, brought to our screens by the fantastic team at adplist.org The conversation took a deep dive into the future of design, beyond the screens, into the realm of humanity-centered design. Let me unpack this treasure trove of insights for you! 🎓 Rethinking Design Education: In a rapidly changing world, it’s vital we rethink how we're preparing the next wave of designers. Integrating knowledge across social, political, economic, and business domains is no longer optional but necessary 🌐. 🧭⚖️ Ethics at the Core: In our quest to design for humanity, let's anchor ourselves in ethics and morality, ensuring that our contributions benefit society at large. 📜 Understanding Through History: Reflecting on history is crucial to understanding the challenges of today and shaping the solutions of tomorrow 📌📅. 💬🎨 Conversational AI & Design: Imagine a future where our interfaces are no longer screens but conversations with AI, guiding us through tasks and decisions with ease and intelligence. The future of design is about creating experiences that speak to us, quite literally 🚫📘💭. 👍👩💻👨💻 The Designer's Journey: Remember, greatness in design comes from continuous improvement. The projects that didn’t go as planned often teach us more than the successes. Embrace every experience as a stepping stone 📈❌✅. Don Norman left us with a gem: "I'm always learning." A reminder that, in the dynamic world of design, our growth is infinite. Let's embrace this journey, weaving ethics, cross-disciplinary knowledge, and crafting a future where design transcends aesthetics to enrich and improve the human experience 🌐💫. 🕵♀️❓ 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐔𝐩 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐄𝐎 ❓🕵♂️ Here is a visual which didn't make the cut. As someone who has been a part of 4 corporate rebrands (1 by choice) and currently bridging tiny design work here and there, I'm fascinated by the creative process. How many incredible designs never actually see the light of day? Sketches, mockups, prototypes – countless hours go into crafting potential solutions. Yet, for various reasons, only a fraction make it to the final product. It doesn't diminish the value of those unseen designs! They represent exploration, iteration, and the crucial "what ifs" that lead to the best possible outcome. 𝐓𝐨𝐨 𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐠𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬. So, a huge shoutout to all the designers out there, including the ones I've thoroughly enjoyed working with: Andrei Tolstykh, Carsten Meinecke, Jenae H., and Ignacio Chavez! Your dedication to the unseen plays a vital role in shaping the products and experiences we all use. #startuplife #design 😅 And on a different note, if you're interested in Philipp Adamidis' full interview discussing AI's current reach, its impact on the job market, the importance of ethics and what needs to be done to make the most of AI, check it out here: https://lnkd.in/geRaTDQy (Please note the original article is in German)

Here’s some thoughts: How Art Makes New Technology Easier to Understand Ever wondered how art and technology intersect to make complex innovations more approachable? Art isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s a powerful tool for translating intricate tech concepts into something we can all grasp. Here’s how art helps us connect with new technology: 1. Visual Clarity: Art turns complex data into clear visuals, like infographics and illustrations, helping us understand and engage with tech more easily. 2. Emotional Connection: By incorporating emotional elements, art makes technology feel less intimidating and more relatable, helping us build a personal connection with it. 3. Storytelling: Art places technology within relatable narratives, showing us how it fits into our everyday lives and why it matters. 4. Creativity and Innovation: Art fosters creativity, which drives technological innovation and problem-solving, opening up new possibilities and solutions. 5. Cultural Inclusivity: Art adapts technology for diverse cultural contexts, making it accessible and meaningful across different audiences. 6. Humanization: By embedding technology in human experiences, art transforms abstract concepts into tangible, relatable entities. In essence, art doesn’t just beautify technology; it makes it understandable and engaging. As we continue to explore technological advancements, the role of art in bridging gaps and fostering innovation remains indispensable. In short ART BINDS US ALL. https://lnkd.in/dBpxG2MK #ArtAndTech #Innovation #VisualStorytelling #TechAccessibility #CreativeDesign #DigitalArt #TechHumanization #CulturalInclusivity #TechCommunication #ArtInTech #CreativeInnovation #DesignThinking #TechAndArt #ArtBridgesGaps #UnderstandingTech

Fireside Chat with Don Norman | ADPList Growth Series "[...] Designers need to think of the bigger picture. For example, when you buy a new phone — do you think of the materials, how it was manufactured? How much carbon dioxide was released when making the product? You probably don’t really think about those things. … and that’s the big problem with design thinking. Design needs to go beyond the customers and think of sustainability, economic implications, and even political implications because everything we care about was made by design by humans." You need to sensitize yourself. You must open your eyes and mind to the world of excellent design. You need to understand your taste and others' taste and see how they overlap. Immerse yourself in the works of masters, both past and present, and allow their brilliance to ignite a spark within your soul. Seek out the extraordinary, the awe-inspiring, and the revolutionary. Let these experiences shape your understanding of what constitutes exceptional design. When AI will take the center stage and redefine design craft, excellent taste is what will set you apart from other designers. Develop your ability to critically analyze design by understanding the subtleties of taste and study what makes a design successful or ineffective. Sensitizing yourself to the extraordinary and honing your ability to recognize and create exceptional work in an era where AI is revolutionizing the field will be your key to success. Peace ✌ #productdesign #uidesign #designcraft #design
