Jobseekers, sending out direct DM's during your outreach is crucial. Vague messages won’t get you far. Here’s how to nail it. Be Specific: Don’t beat around the bush. State your purpose clearly. For example: Vague: “Can we chat some time?” Specific: “I saw your XX company just won the bid for XX project. I worked on a similar project with XX company. Would you happen to know if your company is hiring and if so, who is the recruiter I could reach out to?” Get to the Point: Respect their time. Start with the most important info. For instance: Vague: “Hi! Can we jump on a call?” Specific: “I'd love to discuss the project engineer role you posted. I have XX years of experience working in XX industry doing a similar role using XX programs or software?” Include Relevant Details: Context matters. Provide background info. For example: Vague: “Hello. It's me. I saw you are hiring. what roles do you hire for?” Specific: “I saw your hiring banner and noticed you are in the engineering space. I have XX number of years doing X, X, and X. I'd love to chat.” Using a Call to Action (CTA): If you want them to take action, be explicit. For instance: Vague: “I've attached my resume. Let me know if you are hiring.” Specific: “Hello, I see you are in the XX industry, I have XX years of experience in doing XX and XX hard skills in that industry. would you mind if I shared my resume?” It's important to know the industry of the recruiters you are reaching out to. While some industries are more flexible than others. The more details you give us the higher the chances we will respond. As a recruiter, whose LinkedIn inbox is slammed 24-7. Here are some things to avoid in your email address: - Unprofessional Language - Personal Details - Inappropriate Nicknames - Overly Complex or Confusing Addresses - References to Controversial Topics - References to Illegal Activities - Generic or Common Addresses Remember, your email address is often the first impression you make on potential employers. By having a separate email, you also reduce the risk of emails getting lost and avoid inbox clutter from non-job-related sources.

All Day. I know this because I've been a recruiter. It's where all the magic happens: → Scheduling interviews → Chatting with candidates → Working with hiring managers → Making offers So you can bet that any email that comes in Recruiters will see it (assuming you get the right email). "But Muni, I don't have their email..." Let me show you exactly how to do that. Here's how to find anyone's email on LinkedIn: 1. Open up Google Chrome. 2. Go to the Chrome Web Store. 3. Search for 'Adapt - Find Emails On Websites'. 4. Download the extension. 5. Sign-in to the extension. 6. On any LinkedIn profile, activate the extension. 7. Voila! It spits back an email for that person! Once you have their email, don't let it go to waste. Here's how to write an effective email to a recruiter: 1. An eye-catching subject line → Recruiters get tons of emails → So you need to make sure yours stands out → Try something simple like '{Recruiter's first name} // Follow-up' 2. Email body that adds value → Don't say the same thing everyone else would say. → Use email body to show what you bring to the table. → And express your excitement about the role, confidence in your abilities, and gratitude for their consideration. 3. Avoid attach your resume/documents → You're likely emailing them for the first time → Many email providers might flag your email → This can send your email to spam 4. Recruiters are wasting time trying to write perfect emails. In an effort to stand out, they’re getting ignored. The problem? Personalisation. We know that connecting with a target client is hard. We know talking their language is key. We know we have to make it personal. So, it make sense to use all the info we can find to build a message that references their school, interests, location or career. Right? Wrong. As a recruiter I made this mistake. I spent time finding the perfect blend of personality and humour to connect with my clients. 🫠It worked a bit. 😬It failed way too often. 🫣It definitely wasn’t scalable. So…when I say personalisation is a problem know that I’ve been there. But we can fix it. How? First tag your clients by - Place (Location and market) - Position (Job title and responsibilities) - Priorities (Their goal, mission and vision) - Preferences (How do they like to do business) - Path or journey (What experiences have they had) Now select all the people in your list with the same title, at similar types of firm, with similar goals, similar preferences and the same kind of career path. That’s a segment. Got it? Ok. Now when you write an email to ANYONE on that list you can send it to EVERYONE on the list. Write to one single person. And send to all. It starts conversations. It feels personal. It scales. Segmenting lists takes work. No doubt. But the work it saves and the results it delivers are worth it. ⏲ 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐌𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐎𝐝𝐝 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞 💥 😴 Lately, I’ve been receiving messages at very late hours—sometimes as late as 1 a.m. or 3 a.m.—and while I understand the urgency many job seekers feel, it’s important to consider how timing can impact your outreach. ⁉ 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐢𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬: 👨🏫 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐦: Sending a message at 2 a.m. can make you appear unaware of professional boundaries and norms. 💯 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐋𝐚𝐬𝐭: Timing is key in communication. Engaging in these settings can give you a natural opportunity to connect without the need for a cold message. ⌚ 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬: The most simplest of solutions would be to message recruiters at appropriate times of the day. Like maybe 8am to 6pm. Now, I understand that some of you may be night owls, —believe me, I probably sleep less than most average people —but professionalism still matters. Taking the extra time to consider when and how you reach out can help you create a stronger, more professional first impression. Finally, it’s about respecting people’s time. When most people are sleeping, they aren’t going to be in the mindset to thoughtfully respond. By reaching out during more appropriate hours, you not only increase the likelihood of getting a timely reply, but you also show that you value the recipient’s time and boundaries. Searching for someone's company email so you can send them your resume is the BEST way to get blocked. I know the intention is to take initiative in your job search, but it comes off as creepy. There are better ways to network. (Edit) to expand on my thoughts: Cold emailing can be effective, if done thoughtfully. If a hiring manager gives you their email address or makes it publicly available, then sending an email expressing your interest in a job posting is welcomed. If you have to search the depths of the internet to find someone’s personal or company email address, it’s probably a good sign that: 1. You don’t know this person well enough to ask them for their email (which is also a good sign that this person is not a good choice for a referral). 2. This person hasn’t made their email address public because they wish to maintain a boundary. It’s also important to consider who you are cold emailing and what impact they have in the hiring decision. It’s more advantageous to focus your time and efforts reaching out to the actual hiring manager or recruiter, rather than an individual contributor on a completely different team who has no power to sway the hiring decision. Even if I did have a secret plug on the hiring team, I’m very hesitant to attach my name to a recommendation for someone that I know nothing about. 🚀 𝙁𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙐𝙥𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙈𝙚𝙢𝙤 🚀 : Over the past few days, a number of you have reached out to me personally with some excellent suggestions for enhancing our cold email automation script with the aim to maximize recruiters and employee connection in this extremely challenging job market. So here are a few features I was able to integrate in the last 5 days (read: today) that may be helpful: 1. 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐄𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲: Integrated the ability to mass schedule email deliveries. Now the email arrives in recruiters inboxes precisely when they're most receptive. This feature was pivotal for me to drive higher response rates, recognizing that timing is crucial in effective job hunting strategies. 2. 𝐅𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰-𝐔𝐩 𝐄𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬: To enhance response probability, a follow-up email mechanism has been introduced. This proactive measure feature ensures continued communication with recipients who remain unresponsive to initial outreach. 3. 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭: No more juggling between multiple Excel files for different companies! Now, instead of creating separate files for each company, I use one Excel file with multiple sheets. This streamlined solution lets me manage recruiter related data in one master file. It's organization made easy. 4. 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠: Previously limited to 35 emails, I was able to optimize the batch processing capabilities to efficiently send up to 400 emails in one go. This enhancement minimized errors and timeouts, enabling seamless outreach to 10x recruiters without the hassle of manual intervention. 5. 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐋𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜: Encounter an error while sending an email? No worries! I have now integrated a robust retry mechanism that will attempt to resend the email up to 3 times before logging an error message if unsuccessful. This ensures that the emails get through, even in the face of technical hiccups. Wrapping up, I'm amazed to witness how many of my peers have started brainstorming their own solutions, creating their own versions of GitHub repo that best works for them, drawing from the ingenuity of this endeavor/project. Just a gentle reminder - to all those currently navigating the job market, I'm rooting for your success as much as mine. I have learnt my lesson that innovation thrives through collaboration and sharing ideas. 𝑬𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖'𝒓𝒆 𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒆𝒎𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒓𝒖𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒉𝒐𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒔𝒌𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒔? With just less than 30 days until graduation, I've been dedicating 4+ hours each day to sending cold emails to recruiters and employees across various companies, meticulously crafting each message in hopes of catching someone's attention. In all honesty, it's an exhaustive process, leaving little room for anything else. The job hunt has become a full time job unto itself. So, today I woke up on the right side of the bed and decided to switch things up. Recognizing the inefficiency of the manual approach, I channeled my problem-solving skills into a 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 which barely took 1.5 hours from inception to documentation to writing this LinkedIn post (honestly, the hardest part). By automating the cold email sending process, I've managed to slash the time I spend reaching out to recruiters and employers of specific companies. Tasks that used to eat up hours of my day can now be completed in mere minutes with this automated solution. 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞/𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲, 𝐈 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟎𝟎 𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬. 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐫 - this project operates under the assumption that email addresses for recruiters and employees follow common patterns, like 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘦.𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘦@𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘺.𝘤𝘰𝘮 or 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘦@𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘺.𝘤𝘰𝘮. This streamlined approach allowed me to send personalized cold emails to a large number of recruiters/employees in a fraction of the time. With the time saved from manual email sending, I can now focus more on networking, developing my skills, and getting ready for interviews (fingers crossed 🤞).
