Climate Change could lead to a 17% GDP drop across Asia and the Pacific region by 2070 under a high and emission scenario, which could rise to 41% of GDP by the end of the century. The projected climate effects of sea level rise and labor productivity losses will be the most damaging with lower-income economies and the region's poorest set to be the hardest hit. Food for thought: Ending poverty on a livable planet requires all countries to enhance the resilience and adaptation of their people and economies to the impacts of climate change, while also reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and other damages to nature and the environment. To identify opportunities and priorities to align development and climate change action and objectives at the country level, the World Bank Group introduced the Country Climate and Development Reports (CCDRs) in 2022. This summary report, the third in the series, presents key findings from the first three years of CCDRs, covering 72 countries and economies. It complements the previous two summaries by focusing on the role of people, as they are affected by climate change impacts, but also as essential actors in inventing, designing, and implementing solutions to make development more resilient and to lower emissions. #Heatwaves in the #Mediterranean region in July 2024 (the 2nd hottest July since records began according to Copernicus ECMWF) are clearly attributed to #ClimateChange. This kind of rapid attribution studies can crucially support the #Insurance sector, especially in those countries where there is already a #ClimateLaw. The #Economy at stake from #Climate-induced #risks could double to more than 4% of global GDP by 2050 (to >8 Trillion💰as estimated by McKinsey & Company). A recent publication in Nature delved into the economic commitment of #climatechange. Drawing from #climate and income data spanning the past four decades, the study analyzed local temperature and precipitation variations against economic output across 1,600 regions worldwide. By 2049, it is projected that macroeconomic climate damages will amount to $38 trillion annually. Until then, climate damages are said to reflect the consequences already embedded in past #emissions and foreseeable emission scenarios. These damages represent an average global income reduction of 19% (population-weighted average). Climate justice is another critical consideration: South Asia and Africa are anticipated to bear the greatest impact. The analysis reveals that damages are notably higher in nations with lower historical cumulative emissions and regions with reduced current income per capita. While addressing emissions reduction is the right thing to do, it also proves to be the most cost-effective pathway. Source: https://lnkd.in/eg7eDv_4 #ClimateDamages #ClimateJustice

🌍 Are We Measuring Climate Adaptation Progress Effectively? 🌱 As the impacts of #ClimateChange intensify, from rising temperatures to devastating floods, how do we ensure that our #Adaptation efforts are truly making a difference? The latest OECD - OCDE report sheds light on how countries are progressing in tracking their #ClimateAdaptation efforts and highlights the challenges that remain. 📖 🌟 Key Insights from the Report: 1️⃣ Policy Progress: All OECD nations have adopted national adaptation frameworks, with many advancing sectoral and subnational targets that align with global objectives like the #ParisAgreement's Global Goal on Adaptation. 🌍 2️⃣ Complexities in Measurement: Measuring the #effectiveness of adaptation policies remains a significant hurdle. Establishing causal links between actions and outcomes, such as reduced #ClimateRisks, requires improved data and methodologies. #Indicators are increasingly used, with 83% of surveyed countries employing them, but long-term tracking of impacts—especially for #Vulnerability reduction—still needs strengthening. 📊 3️⃣ Inspiring Case Studies: United Kingdom: Advanced monitoring tools assess over 250 adaptation actions for their progress and outcomes. Chile: The #ClimateRisk Atlas (ARClim) delivers localized insights, enabling targeted action. Korea: Budget-specific #AdaptationPlans ensure that resources are aligned with measurable objectives. 💡 Recommendations for Action: Close Data Gaps: Build granular, harmonized datasets across sectors to measure #Progress effectively. Invest in Resources: Provide adequate technical and financial support to sustain adaptation initiatives. Collaborate Broadly: Foster inclusive approaches by engaging #LocalGovernments, communities, and marginalized groups in planning and implementation. 🔗Follow the link below to read the full article: https://lnkd.in/epdiWzwT 📣 At PlanAdapt, we are committed to amplifying insights and best practices in #ClimateAdaptation. The missing $1 trillion Over $1 trillion needed for developing nations’ climate transition, says ex-World Bank official For the past two years, world leaders, economists and activists have called for sweeping overhauls to the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund that would make the two lending institutions more adept at combating climate change. Discussions about how to reform lumbering multilateral bureaucracies can get tedious quickly. But ultimately the debates are all about money. How to make more money available for developing nations that are being battered by extreme weather? And how to make sure poor countries don’t spend too much money servicing their debt? Experts estimate that at least $1 trillion a year is needed to help developing countries adapt to hotter temperatures and rising seas, build out clean energy projects and cope with climate disasters... https://lnkd.in/gthqSYp6

EIB`s latest report is out... Latin America and the Caribbean countries are paying a disproportionate price for the climate transition, given their low contribution to global CO2 emissions. Several countries in the region, mainly in the Caribbean, have some of the largest exposures to physical risks, despite their relatively small contribution towards global emissions. https://lnkd.in/e5_ivyQf #climatefinance #latinamerica EIB Global | BEI Monde #caribbean
