It’s hard to change a systems without understanding their levers. Here’s some work we did with Systems Change Lab to quantify 70+ shifts that must take place to protect people and planet.

Over centuries, economic shifts like the move from horse-cart to motor cars have brought benefits and challenges. Today, carbon-intensive sectors must transform to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. However, a low-carbon transition alone is insufficient. A just transition, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, ensures equity and prosperity. In this article, Climate Policy Initiative’s Manager, Md Tariq Habib, Senior Manager Saarthak Khurana, and Director Vivek Sen analyze critical sectors like power, mobility, and hard-to-abate industries and how innovative policies, financial resources, and re-skilling programs can make the transition non-disruptive to the existing channels and networks. I'm a close follower of Bjorn Lomborg's posts. He makes a valid point: cost matters. But let’s be clear—time matters too. The idea that we should delay aggressive climate action because it’s “too expensive” or “impractical” ignores the cost of inaction - rising disasters, economic instability, and irreversible damage. The truth is, we can’t afford to choose between economic stability and climate action. Both can and must happen together. At Carbon Capture & Commercialization, we’re working hard to prove that carbon removal doesn’t have to break the bank. We believe our compact, energy-efficient capture systems will operate for under $100/ton, targeting emissions where they occur - without waiting for systemic overhauls or future promises.
