I'm sad not to be at the ARC conference this week where this is being launched. I was involved in the early days of getting Academic Registrars' Council to collaborate and ultimately own this initiative. Something that all students deserve. Developed by the Higher Education Mental Health Implementation Taskforce (HEMHIT), Compassionate Communication sets out a new commitment for academic and behavioural processes, one that is supported by the Office of the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education. The principles: 👉 address feedback from students and parents. 👉 draw on good practice from the HE sector in the UK and beyond 👉 enable HE providers to offer a good balance of support and challenge to their students. 👉 address the timing and content of communications, inclusivity, organisational culture, and continuous review. 👉 are brought to life by case studies from HE organisations across the UK. Compassionate Communication is now owned by the Academic Registrars' Council who will champion its implementation across the sector. #CompassionateComms

Spaces still available❗️ Sign up now❗️ On March 19th, as part of Neurodiversity Celebration Week, a worldwide initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences, Marius Frank will host a fascinating webinar discussion exploring how we can integrate neurological differences into teaching practices. We have had a fantastic response so far but we are looking to add more people to this online event, to ensure that more people can learn about inclusive classrooms and how they can help students. By appreciating that different students will process information in different ways, our classrooms can be designed to be more inclusive for all. Our panel will explore topics such as: • Creating a psychologically safe teaching environment • Diversifying and adjusting your teaching strategies • Using Assistive Technologies to remove systemic barriers to learning • Classroom and school design and build • Managing bullying or challenging conversations amongst students • Widening the social model of disability to include children disabled by circumstance • Exploring strengths and challenges of neurodifferences • Thinking about inclusive design in education, including the need to challenge the government about the design of the National Curriculum and how children are assessed through the current Examination System (e.g. Is the way We teach and assess the English Curriculum discriminatory?!) • Closing the gap between the classroom and the workplace... for all Marius is a leading figure when it comes to learning about neurodiversity and education, so you won’t want to miss out on the opportunity to tune in to hear from him and his panellists. So, follow the link to sign up and we’ll see you on the day! 🔗https://lnkd.in/ep2p9uVH #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek #NeurodiversityWeek #NCW #ThisIsND #Event #PanelDiscussion

At least 1 in 5 people are neurodivergent. Neurodivergent folx are in every workplace and CE training but are disadvantaged by systems, processes, norms and institutions that were constructed to exclude their way of being. There are a growing number of provisions and resources in K-12 education reaching into higher ed for accommodating neurodivergent learners, but accommodation provides the minimum necessary. It’s not the same as inclusion. It's not the same as belonging. There is a conversation in workforce development right now about the precise skills, divergent thinking and innovative capabilities that reside in so many neurodivergent adults who are under or unemployed because of current systems and norms. There’s a discussion about what it might take to provide workspaces that eliminate barriers and open way to vast untapped potential. And we know for careers to grow, CE must play a role. Presently, there are no guidelines or standards for neuroinclusive PD or continuing education. International Accreditors for Continuing Education & Training (IACET) would like to change that. Following the success of the AI Symposium, IACET has recruited a group that I am thrilled to Chair assembling research on Neuroinclusion that will be presented to the CE/T community and we will gather for a Neuroinclusion Symposium in May 7, 2025 in Memphis. You're going to want to put that date on your calendar! Thank you Randy, Bradley and the IACET team for your leadership in this vital conversation. #inclusiveCE #neuroinclusion #neurodiversity #CE #training #professionaldevelopment

🧠💡 NEURODIVERGENT EDUCATION 💡🧠 Education is not one-size-fits-all. Inclusive teaching practices and accommodations are essential to support the unique learning needs of neurodivergent students. Sensory-friendly learning environments, alternative assessment methods, and promoting understanding and acceptance among peers are just a few ways to make education more accessible. Let’s discuss, how can education be more inclusive for everyone? #NeurodivergentEducation #InclusiveTeaching #SensoryFriendly #AlternativeAssessment #UnderstandingAndAcceptance
