Tips for Capturing Easter Photos As we head into the Easter weekend here are a few helpful tips for photographing your celebrations.  - Don’t forget to take a picture of everyone dressed up before the festivities begin. Try to do it before your church service when little ones might be more cooperative. After sitting for an hour during church, the last thing they want to do is hold still for a picture. - Find natural light. Many churches have beautifully decorated alters for their Easter service but the indoor lighting is terrible! Find a place outside and if it’s too bright, step into the shade. - Put your camera in sports mode when photographing that Easter egg hunt. The faster shutter speed will help capture those action shots. - Don’t forget the candid shots. The chocolate covered faces, dying Easter eggs or a special time reading books with grandma and grandpa will later be some of your treasured keepsakes. - Have a special tradition? Document it through pictures for future generations. Feeling crushed by holiday stress? Forget all that glitter and garland…it’s time to embrace a little holiday liberation. That’s right, I’m talking about Festivus…for the rest of us! Not only one of the greatest Seinfeld moments ever it also inspired one of my favorite packaging concept presentations we’ve ever created. (Peep the last image for the actual special edition set…yes, they included the pole, and yes, I was thrilled.) We even built our own Festivus pole for the office which conveniently doubled as a coat rack in the off season. Iconic times. If you’re new to the Festivus scene here’s a quick rundown of the traditions celebrated every December 23rd: 1. The Festivus Pole: Aluminum. Unadorned. No tinsel. Too distracting. 2. The Airing of Grievances: Finally, a structured opportunity to tell everyone how they’ve disappointed you this year. 3. Feats of Strength: Because nothing screams holiday spirit like putting someone in a headlock. 4. Festivus Miracles: When Barely Plausible is Good Enough. Deck the halls? Nah…air the grievances and call it a day. Can flowers transform your life? I never used to appreciate flowers. But then my mind slowed down. When that happened, I started noticing flowers, appreciating and loving them. The colours, shapes, textures and vibrancy. For me they come with emotions. I feel my flowers. I just won't buy certain flowers because they are not "happy" flowers. They've grown me and shaped my own confidence in being able to play with things of beauty. Choosing, combining, arranging and having them on my table give me pure delight. They've also connected me with clients and enabled a recent speaking engagement! Flowers speak a language with no words. When the horrors began in Israel so many months ago, I couldn't listen to music and I couldn't buy flowers. The mourning within had no space for frivolity and play. It tooks months until I could even think about it. And at that point I knew I needed it. At the time I released a video that made its rounds around the world to encourage people to honour whichever way they need to experience these events. Because there is no ONE way. Nobody knows you better than yourself. Flowers in full bloom speak of a universal beauty which holds the power to take on many meanings. Yet they stand firm in their own beauty, dignity and strength. They don’t change because of why we give or receive them. We may give flowers to show love, joy or, solidarity. To wish wellness, express sympathy or, declare admiration. We receive them in our most courageous and vulnerable moments. To celebrate achievements or, to lift our spirits when they are low. Yet flowers remain bold in their individual identities and beauty. They don’t change what they are because we decide to present or display them. We travel miles to visit gardens cultivated to be the best they can be. To immerse ourselves in floral beauty which translates beyond spoken language. We want to experience a plethora of difference and abundance all at the same time and take forever pictures capturing moments of dignity, pride, hope, fun and laughter. Flowers are beside us, clasped in our hands, adorning our hair, our clothes. They stand tall as we admire them. They bring joy, reignite memories, remind us of things that matter, taking us back to places and spaces and people. Flowers won’t change who they are because of where we meet, how we remember or, who we are. Each flower knows its essence and translates this into the potential of its existence.
