Soil Vapor Extraction Lesson 7 - Electrical SVE systems require a decent amount of power to run the main blower motor (10 to 25 HP) and smaller components (transfer pump, after-cooler, etc). Industrial sites often have existing power surplus and, in some cases, existing unused breakers from equipment that is no longer present. For instance, many of our sites are former manufacturing facilities that have since been repurposed as lower-draw operations, such as logistics facilities. This gives our teams available capacity to power our SVE systems with only minor component installation such as a submeter or new disconnect. Three-phase power is always preferred for electrical motor-driven equipment, because it is a much more efficient way to deliver energy. When we can find it, we prefer 3PH 480VAC or 230VAC. With that configuration, our units only need 30 to 60 amps of service. Conversely, if only single-phase power is available, for instance 1PH 230VAC, we'll be using about 50% more kWatt-hours of electricity, vastly increasing the monthly operational expense.
