Caledonian Marine Assets Ltd (CMAL) has announced the issuing of a tender for the first phase of Scotland’s Small Vessel Replacement Programme (SVRP), involving seven new electric ferries along with shore power facilities and port upgrades. As part of the SVRP plan, a competitive tender process has been launched for the new ferries, the first stage to assess if the shipyards interested in bidding for the contract meet the financial and technical criteria to take on the project. This Phase 1 of the SVRP is estimated to cost around £175 million (€208 million) with the contracts planned to be awarded for March 2025. CMAL is an asset-owning company wholly owned by the Scottish government and CalMac Ferries, better known as Caledonian MacBrayne, and operator of the vessels. Diverse routes and ships The highlands and islands of Scotland’s Western Isles and Clyde are heavily dependent on ferries providing both a lifeline for local communities as well as catering for the region’s busy tourist industry. CMAL currently owns 37 ferries, 32 of which are operated by CalMac Ferries Limited, with three operated by Serco Northlink Ferries running between Aberdeen and Orkney and Shetland. The fleet is varied in size, ranging from the outboard motor-powered landing craft Carvoria, accommodating one car and 12 passengers to the Loch Seaforth with a capacity of 130 cars or 20 HGVs and 700 passengers. Some of CalMac’s routes are suited for double-ended ferries and it is this part of its operation the new electric vessels are planned to serve, including the Colintraive to Rhubodach (Bute), Lochaline to Fishnish (Mull), Tarbert (Loch Fyne) to Portavadie (Peninsula), Iona to Fionnphort (Mull), Sconser to Raasay, Tobermory to Kilchoan and Tayinloan to Gigha routes. One thing that I’ve always loved about the refrigeration trade is the ability to travel. Once you have a family, things change! Travel is hard, wife is dreading when you leave, kids are sad, home obligations on hold. These points are the reality of travel with a family when working for other deciding entities. Once you take control of your own future and fate it creates a different feel to the travel. My family feels similar with ONE major difference… the ability to decide. While once I decide to represent my business partner in contract, I represent them to the fullest at every point. #refrigeration #contractor #paradigm #co2 #energyrecovery

Brightline West's high-speed rail project, connecting Las Vegas to Southern California, is slated to commence operations in 2028. The construction phase is expected to span approximately four years, with significant activity anticipated along the I-15 corridor. While specific details regarding construction-related travel disruptions are limited, the majority of the rail alignment will be situated within the median of I-15, which may help minimize potential impacts on current traffic flow. Upon completion, the high-speed rail service will offer a 2-hour and 10-minute journey between Las Vegas and Southern California, effectively halving the typical driving time.

Imagine travel where every seat is comfortable, even economy. Where you can arrive a few minutes before your trip and just walk on. There's ample room for luggage. There's even a bar on board. The Wi-Fi is dependable and often included with your ticket, allowing you to work or stream content during travel. When you arrive in an hour or two and walk off, you're already in the center of the city. Think this is too good to be true? Think again. This type of travel exists all over the world, except in North America. It's called high-speed rail. Here's how to make it happen. https://lnkd.in/gR7ddQ4n
Building high-speed rail is ‘not for the faint-hearted.’ Here’s how to get started.
