“What’s the capability your users want/need the most?” Such a simple question, but it stumped me. Here I was, technical product lead on our internal platform, and the simplest question of priority had got lost in the endless slides, backlog items, dreams… What do they need or want the most? From your platform, from its capabilities or distinct products, what will your users celebrate on arrival? Making sure that answer is on the tip of everyone’s tongue ALL THE TIME has become table stakes for me and my team.

Observing how customers interact with a pretotype provides invaluable insights. Each small 'aha' moment from their behavior highlights specific areas for improvement and validation. These micro-learnings are crucial—they inform our next steps, ensuring that each iteration is mirroring customer needs. I highly recommend spending less time on ideation and just go ahead and test your concepts the ‘pretended’ way in a live market. By putting your ideas out there early and seeing what happens, you gain real-world feedback that is far more valuable than theoretical discussions.
