Hosting "Standing Up for Our Community," Jewish Family & Community Services East Bay's briefing one month after the 2024 election with our immigration legal leaders Reena Arya and Sarah Gakenia Cleveland and Network of Jewish Human Service Agencies director of public policy and advocacy, Jonathan Schrag has been a way for us to turn knowledge into power for community action. Takeaways: - Proposed federal policy changes will have real consequences for our economy, our neighbors, our own families. - Low-income, older adult, and immigrant members of our community are likely to experience negative effects of proposed changes most acutely. - Policy changes may present new opportunities to support community members and new ways for our state, regional and city governments, businesses, and nonprofit ecosystems to step up. - There are opportunities to take action with JFCS East Bay. Stay informed, volunteer, raise your advocacy voice, and donate. It's National Reconciliation Week, and now more than ever we need to open (or re-open), and nourish connections between First Nations Peoples and multicultural communities. Roads to Reconciliation: Activating Multicultural Communities are exactly one of the innovative and impactful programs that does this
If a photo can share a thousand words, this photo certainly does that when it comes to describing the extensive work carried out across the pilot year of Roads to Reconciliation: Activating Multicultural Communities. “Now more than ever”, our work in twenty local government areas across Victoria has been needed to bring together multicultural community leaders, with local governments, and First Nations leaders… Our first year on the road was wrapped up with a Community Summit brought to you by the National Centre for Reconciliation, Truth, and Justice and delivered in partnership with Reconciliation Victoria and supported by the First Peoples' Assembly of Victoria. Here’s looking forward to getting support for year 2… Photo: Dr Judy Tang - Commissioner, and Community Fellowship recipient, Commissioner & Deputy Chairperson - Yoorrook Justice Commission - Sue-Anne Hunter, and Darebin City Council - Cr. Emily Dimitriadis.

This looks a great training for anyone working with youth! Designed with research and policy advocacy in mind, "Disrupting Adultism: Building Authentic Youth Coalitions" training will delve into the concept of adultism, exploring its implications and how it can inadvertently create barriers in youth engagement. More importantly, we will discuss strategies to disrupt these patterns in order to foster an environment that truly values and incorporates youth perspectives. We will explore strategies to foster genuine partnerships with young people, enabling them to become active participants in decision-making processes. By the end of this training, participants will have an introduction to the knowledge and tools needed to build authentic youth coalitions, ensuring that our future leaders are not just seen, but heard, respected, and actively involved in shaping the world around them. https://lnkd.in/gTp5Ppmp
