Demand for #sustainable #battery #materials ♻️ 🔋 is growing in both the United States and Europe. CEO Mike O'Kronley was asked recently about Ascend Elements' growth in Europe. Increasing demand from global customers and new regulations in the EU are among the most compelling reasons. "Many of our customers are global in nature. Just recently Ascend Elements announced an expansion into Europe. Why are we going to Europe? Europe is one of the or it's a much larger market than it is in the United States. So we are a US based company. The technology was developed in the US and we have a very growing, rapidly growing market here in the US for batteries and battery materials. But Europe is about three times the size of the market here in the US, at least it is now. And so it makes a lot of sense to also enter into the European market, a lot of the customers that we're engaged with, the battery manufacturers, the vehicle OEMs, they are global in nature. They have the need for critical material circularity not only in the United States but also in Europe. There's also some legislation that exists in Europe that requires new batteries to have recycled content in them. And so starting in 2027, anybody that. Puts a new battery into the market is going to have to start reporting on how much recycled content is in that battery. And starting in 2030, there's minimum amounts that's going to increase over time. So every manufacturer that is putting batteries out to the market is very concerned about this. They're looking at their supply chains. They're looking at not only how do I get enough nickel or how do I get enough battery material or lithium, how do I get enough recycled content to put in my batteries for compliance in Europe. So that's something we don't have in the United States. It is some legislation that's already on the books in Europe. And so we're getting a lot of inquiries, a lot of demand for our products, our recycled products because it helps battery makers, it helps the vehicle OEMs really with their compliance in in the future.

Really good post AE I guess Sodium Ion is done before it starts as we all suspected. Its not as easy to recycle and recover batteries and create easily saleable commodities as you hear! Of course we at LSL had this capability since 2023. Now we have all the required new permits to future proof our operations we look forward to working with great companies such as Ascend to keep that supply of high value powers in the loop. We will focus on the UK battery wastes in all sectors and look forward to being part of a true UK circular economy. Watercycle Technologies let’s go 😎

Does this mean that Ascend Elements intends to recycle Black Mass in Europe? It is likely that Ascend Elements will export secondary raw materials such as Black Mass from Europe to the USA for processing into cathode active material.

The European battery industry faces considerable hurdles that are impacting its competitiveness and delaying progress toward self-sufficiency. Key issues include supply chain constraints, a heavy reliance on non-European raw materials like lithium, cobalt, and nickel, and increasing competition from international markets, particularly in Asia. Additionally, financing challenges and regulatory complexities are slowing down the scaling of production and innovation. This investment will cover a new Air Separation Unit (ASU) in Bulgaria and the modernization of four existing units in Germany. www.airliquide.com Air Liquide will invest approximately 100 million euros to supply Aurubis AG, a leading global provider of non-ferrous metals and one of the largest copper recyclers worldwide, in Bulgaria and in Germany. This investment will cover a new Air Separation Unit (ASU) in Bulgaria and the modernization of four existing units in Germany. In addition to providing large volumes of oxygen and nitrogen for the increasing production of copper and other metals by Aurubis, these plants will also support the development of Industrial Merchant markets in both regions.
