The National Rural Health Resource Center has released a Report titled "Building a Sustainable Rural Health Workforce for the 21st Century." This is a report from the 2024 Rural Health Workforce Summit held earlier this year. The goal of the summit was to identify alternative strategies to address rural workforce challenges and profile successful rural workforce initiatives taking place across the country that can be scaled and distributed to a larger audience. The set of strategies focus on four key areas that can help move the needle forward on creating and retaining a sustainable and successful healthcare workforce in rural America. Including recommendations on how to "Maximize Collaboration with Educational Institutions to Build the Future Rural Health Workforce Pathway" a topic we discuss frequently within West Virginia. If you work in healthcare or digital health in Georgia, you likely know that there are significant issues facing rural populations when it comes to healthcare. Top of the list in my mind - access to care. Whether we're talking about the need to drive for hours to reach a specialist, the lack of broadband access to leverage technological advances as simple as televisits or even access to primary and acute care because rural hospitals struggle to survive financially. If you joined the TAG Digital Health-HIMSS Georgia Chapter joint event in February 2023, you heard about the impact of rural hospital shutdowns from two rural Mayors. Come join us for a discussion on solutions to rural care.
Join us on November 19 for an impactful discussion on rural health. Industry leaders from regulatory, technology, finance, and transportation sectors will share how they collaborate to address health disparities in rural communities. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain valuable insights into overcoming challenges in rural healthcare. Anita Ballaney will moderate a discussion of both the problems and solutions for rural population healthcare. This diverse and highly knowledgeable panel includes Michele Madison, Kerry Trapnell , Dana Weeks and Helen Williams. 🚀 Thrilled to share my latest publication in the JMIR Journal! 🚀 Our study, titled "Perspectives of Digital Health Innovations in Low- and Middle-Income Health Care Systems From South and Southeast Asia," explores the transformative power of digital health in addressing the complex healthcare challenges faced by resource-constrained settings, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. 🌍 Why is this important? Digital health has emerged as a powerful tool in South and Southeast Asia, regions known for their rich cultural diversity and intricate healthcare systems. By leveraging technology, we can tackle systemic issues while enhancing health outcomes, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Despite technological challenges, digital health presents significant opportunities to supplement traditional care, strengthen health systems, and improve epidemic preparedness. 💡 Key Insights from Our Study: Technological, cultural, and ethical considerations are essential for ensuring that digital health interventions provide a meaningful social benefit to communities and generate positive spillovers for other LMICs. The study advocates for ongoing research to inform system development and scaling efforts, emphasizing cultural sensitivity, equity, and robust data governance. Collaboration between researchers, policymakers, healthcare professionals, and local communities is crucial to harnessing the full potential of digital health for improving health outcomes and promoting health equity. Local partnerships play a pivotal role in ensuring that digital health solutions are adapted to community needs and contexts. As we navigate this unprecedented time in the global digital transformation, the discussions around digital health are more urgent than ever. By understanding and addressing these challenges, we can build sustainable, equitable digital health strategies that will have a lasting impact across diverse health contexts. Thanking co-authors Kiran Gopal Vaska CK Cheruvettolil Siyan Yi Esabelle Yam Kevin Schulman Eleni Linos Karen Eggleston Nitya Rajeshuni Latha Palaniappan for their contribution on this paper. Special thanks to Kiran Gopal Vaska for giving me this fantastic opportunity to showcase my research and documentation skills for this paper. 🔗 Read the full publication here. While envisaging #equitable #care as #connected, #intersectional, #flexible, #inclusive and #community-centred, the HEEC team reviews existing evidence, identifies gaps and translates evidence into actionable insights for #healthcare practitioners and decision makers. A significant aspect of the Centre's approach is the acknowledgment that understanding and addressing the unequal distribution of #power is fundamental to achieving #healthequity. It serves as an inspiring example of how as researchers we can harness #technology and evidence-based practices to advance #health equity and advocate for meaningful change in #healthcareservices.
Great blog by Health Innovation East highlighting our work at Health Equity Evidence Centre. Key quotes 👉 Gary Howsam "Utilising this knowledge to enable teams to concentrate their efforts on the areas the evidence shows will lead to ‘wins’ for their population" 👉 Piers Ricketts "It is paramount that we use all the resources and technologies available to first protect those at greatest risk and next to facilitate a culture where we constantly seek the most effective solutions for promoting equity...We are excited about supporting the HEEC in the east of England and onwards to achieving scale over the coming months" #healthinequalities #equityforall https://lnkd.in/gvcTDB_9

🌍 The Critical Link Between Implementation Science and Public Health 🚀 Many people are unfamiliar with Implementation Science, yet it plays a vital role in shaping the effectiveness and sustainability of public health programs worldwide. But what exactly is implementation science, and how is it connected to public health? Implementation Science is a field focused on studying and improving the process by which evidence-based public health interventions are successfully put into practice. Public health, at its core, is about preventing disease and promoting well-being at a population level. Yet the transition from research to real-world application is often fraught with challenges. Implementation science addresses these challenges by examining the factors that influence the uptake of health interventions in diverse settings, ensuring that effective strategies are not just theoretical but actually make a difference in people's lives. This field explores various dimensions, such as the context in which health programs operate, the characteristics of the target population, and the engagement of stakeholders. By analyzing these factors, implementation science helps identify barriers to success and develop tailored solutions that enhance the effectiveness and reach of public health initiatives. As the demand for skilled professionals in this area increases, many universities now offer specialized degrees in implementation science. These academic paths provide rigorous training in research methodologies, program evaluation, and health policy, preparing graduates to become leaders in implementing evidence-based practices. Specializing in implementation science not only equips professionals with the necessary skills to address complex public health challenges but also empowers them to drive meaningful change in their communities. The importance of implementation science is further underscored by the ever-evolving landscape of global health challenges, from emerging infectious diseases to chronic health issues. By ensuring that evidence-based interventions are effectively integrated into health systems, implementation science plays a crucial role in achieving health equity and improving health outcomes for underserved populations. In conclusion, the intersection of implementation science and public health is vital for creating effective, sustainable health interventions. By fostering collaboration among researchers, practitioners, and communities, we can bridge the gap between research and practice, ultimately leading to healthier populations. Let’s champion the role of implementation science as a fundamental component of public health strategy, paving the way for impactful and lasting health improvements worldwide. #ImplementationScience #PublicHealth #HealthEquity #EvidenceBasedPractice #GlobalHealth
