Happy International Accountants day! As we celebrate this day, I reflect on my journey and one consistent thing has always been integrity in a profession that has been tainted. I chose this path as a way of service to God through my career. As many say "anyone can do accounts, it's double entry" well, you would be amazed how much deeper knowledge you must posses to excel in this profession. Some of the highlights are but not limited to... controls, accounting concepts, IFRSs understanding, planning, budgeting, interpretation of data, reporting ability to executives and non accounting staff; all this coupled with much more is what we must do to keep companies afloat. 🥂 cheers to those that have shared values.

It was a journey to be an accountant, very helpful and practical course.

Accountants often underestimate the value of their knowledge because you know what you know. BUT what is obvious to you, is NOT obvious to your clients. What seems simple to you may in fact help your clients make money and/or save a lot of unnecessary expense. All the years of education, training, professional development and on-the-job experience accountants have can be delivered to clients so there is a win-win. When clients understand what you do for them helps improve their business outcomes you can charge for value not just billable hours. #knowyourvalue #accountants

Whyfield aren’t Chartered Accountants. This is something I’ve had to fiercely defend for over a decade when a client decides to work with us and someone throws this as a reason they shouldn’t (usually a competitor btw) and assumes this is the only measure of being able to do the job…. They are correct, Whyfield isn’t a firm regulated by ICEAW because more than 50% of our shareholding isn’t held by Chartered Accountants. HOWEVER ☑️ We employ Chartered Accountants ☑️ We train/develop and financially support people through their Chartered qualifications. ☑️ I have been an Accountant for over 20 years. That’s 2 decades of lived experience and many of the team have similar backgrounds. ☑️We are regulated by the AAT which is a worldwide recognised regulatory accounting body. ☑️We are licensed to carry out the same services as chartered accountants ☑️We have the most 5 star reviews of any accountancy practice in Cornwall ☑️We’ve won several awards for the services we provide. ☑️We have been voted the BEST place to work in Cornwall 2024. ☑️We act for some of the biggest organisations in the county. ☑️We are flying through our B-Corp journey. ☑️We have helped raise millions in finance for our clients. ☑️I sit on dozens of boards for companies of all sizes. ☑️I started this business age 27 and now employ 24 incredible people in a seven figure firm. ☑️ I’m almost through a masters degree in business. ✖️I have one exam left to become Chartered myself but it heavily focuses on PLC legislation for group companies with foreign subsidiaries (which we will never ever act for) and my neurodivergent brain just won’t let me remember tax treatment that I will never use again 🤦🏻♀️ Ps I’ve passed 28 other accountancy exams 😉 But the haters are right…..we aren’t Chartered.
