ASD Market Week, and the closeout industry in general is like a gigantic family reunion. There are a ton of versions of that wacky aunt that you avoid at all costs, but inevitably get caught talking about the latest political issues with (I cant be the only one who this happens to?). There is the quality time you get with people you wish you saw more often because when you do it feels like you're connecting, cared for, and moving forward. And of course, there is that healthy balance of competition and collaboration. We are fortunate to have been in this wacky industry for an eternity, and have enjoyed the benefits of many long and fruitful relationships. We have people we work with extensively who we also compete with. We are all fighting over pennies all day long. literally. Pennies. But, in the end of the day, there's a lot of shared success that is created by focusing on making deals where everyone has a margin, and most importantly consumers save money. Obviously, I cant speak for everyone who is in this Tzotchke hustler game, but I know that is how we have always done, and always will do business. #closeouts #offprice #asd #thebazaar

The PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) program, a flagship military initiative of PGA REACH, aims to introduce golf to veterans and active-duty military personnel, enhancing their physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being. This posting examines the program's impact, limitations, and the broader context of mental health support for veterans. Background on PGA HOPE: PGA HOPE offers a 6-8 week curriculum led by PGA Professionals trained in adaptive golf and military cultural competency. All programs are funded by PGA REACH, supplemented by PGA Section Foundations, ensuring free access for all veterans (PGA HOPE, n.d.). Program Impact and Limitations: In 2019, PGA HOPE impacted 2,500 veterans nationwide, with over 350 PGA Professionals involved. However, this number represents only a fraction (0.014%) of the total veteran population of around 18 million in the United States (Inoue et al., 2021). The limitation in reach is further highlighted by the 162 PGA HOPE programs across the country, and while significant, it remains insufficient to serve the vast number of veterans (PGA HOPE - Golf Life). Challenges in Addressing Mental Health: The "22 Initiative" emphasizes the alarming statistic of 22 veterans committing suicide daily, revealing a critical mental health crisis. Golf initiatives like PGA HOPE aim to address this crisis, but the scale of the issue suggests a need for more comprehensive solutions. Approximately 14% to 16% of U.S. service members deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq suffer from PTSD or depression, underscoring the complexity of mental health challenges among veterans (Inoue et al., 2021). While commendable, the impact of PGA HOPE remains limited when considering the broader veteran population and the scale of mental health challenges they face (Military Veterans Find Focus, Community as Part of PGA HOPE Programs, 2019). The healing powers of golf could potentially have a broader impact if integrated into a more comprehensive approach to veteran support and mental health care. Urgent attention is needed to address the mental health crisis among veterans, considering the limitations of existing golf initiatives in providing holistic and accessible support. www.GreensGuild.com https://lnkd.in/em6qzANf #PGAHope #Veteran #MentalHealthAwareness #GolfTherapy #PTSDRecovery #SupportOurVeterans #MentalHealthMatters

ASD Market Week.... Let me share just a few things that make ASD Market different from all of the other buying trips your merchandise team is doing this summer: 1. DEALS!!! This is the show where buy low, sell high was born. We have companies that specialize in Closeouts and Liquidations, and they spend months gathering the best products for you to see at ASD. 2. BEAUTY! I have worked with and visited many trade shows in my tenure in B2B markets, but the beauty section of ASD is on fire. So many great brands and products. Some that I knew and some that were new to me, but all of it is worth checking out. Perfumes, skincare, cosmetics, hair. Yes we have it all. 3. TOYS! GIFT! NOVELTY! We have a wide selection of products, both domestic and international, and you can find the deal that could make your season right here at ASD. Get ready for the holiday season and for Back to School. We are ready for you. 4. APPAREL AND FASHION? Lest I forget these, as they are near and dear to my heart. Where else can you see customizable sportswear from EXISTUSA, cute dresses from Yaknyetiretail and great loungewear from JTC Apparel Accessories aka Comfy Luxe. This beautiful story underpins one of my key driving factors to be involved in the sport industry: The power of connection and the impact Sport; organisations, teams and individuals can have on society.

"And when you came into my life, you made life worth living." Beautiful scenes as Essendon stalwart & captain Dyson Heppell's 250th AFL game is celebrated in style with his number 1 fan Harrison Pennicott, who has schleroderma, a rare autoimmune condition. Harrison was diagnosed when he was three, and has had four fingers amputated, two bone marrow transplants and multiple leg, ankle and wrist injuries during his health battle. Heppell is loved by Essendon fans for his heart and courage and knocking back offers from other clubs, instead leading his boyhood club out of their supplement scandal dark times He has become a club legend well beyond the boundary line and after first meeting Harrison at an Essendon training in 2018, they have formed an enduring friendship that moved Heppell to get a small tattoo on the back of his leg of a sunflower, the international scleroderma symbol, and the letter ‘H’. It's always amazing to see the impact that elite players have as role models for the younger generation and an unlikely friendship emerge that transcends footy. Thanks for Dyson and Harrison for providing a reminder of the magic of sport to bring together people from all walks of life #DysonHarrison #KindaDusty Credit: Essendon FC

Monday Minute or 5 - Spontaneous Discomfort Yesterday was Memorial Day and for many people that means hotdogs, hamburgers, swimming, and sunshine. For others, a time to recognize those that have given the greatest sacrifice in service of this country so we can enjoy all of the fun that Memorial Day weekend often brings. One of the ways that I’ve been spending Memorial Day for the last seven or so years is participating in the Murph workout named after Michael Murphy, who lost his life during Operation Red Wings in Afghanistan. It’s a grueling workout, but one that pushes people into extreme discomfort, and in a way symbolizes a fraction of what the heroes have given that we honor. For me as I was recovering from an arm injury, I wanted to participate again this year, but even going into it didn’t know if Icould risk injury again. This year has been all about discomfort, and there is no way that I could refuse this. So I went all in and threw on my 20 pound weighted vest and did the entire workout vested with the modifications to the pull-ups so it’s not to re-injure my arm. I embrace the discomfort that the next 59 minutes and 29 seconds brought. So my question for you as your searching to make great memories, grow and hunt discomfort, are you preparing yourself to be able to do so with spontaneity? Is it becoming something easier to say “yes” to? #goals #sales #business #mondayminuteor5 #leadership #onpurpose #customerengagement #customerexperience #changetheworld #leadwithinfluence #relationshipsmatter #purpose #mondaymotivation #growthmindset #servantleadership #letsgrow #impact #legacy #discomfort #mindshift #perspective #murph2024 Sterling Hawkins #nomatterwhat

USSF Season 2 is in the books. What an incredible season filled with challenges and great games. During this season I overcame: 2 pulled hamstrings A meniscus injury Breaking the 25mph sprint barrier. (Only did it twice but at 39, pat on my back!) Over 75 games officiated. Leveled up my license and got invited to higher level matches. (ECNL was too much fun!!🤩) Although the physical obstacles had me on the verge of quitting; my mind and spirit quickly cancelled that out. Pushing through barriers is the only way to achieve growth. The smile on my face is pure satisfaction in knowing… it’s only going to get better and better. Consistency & discipline are paramount. Stay excited, stay motivated. Your breakthrough is right around the corner. #marketing #business #motivation #theweeklymotivator
