Our collection of posts on safety devices starts with conductive safety edges: these can be applied to sliding, swing and counterbalanced gates and are required by law when the type of gate/motor is somehow unable to detect an obstacle within the time frame specified by the local standards and regulations in force. Conductive Safety Edges consist of two metal contacts forming the safety sensor and an aluminium support structure, all contained within an extruded rubber profile. One end of the sheath ends with an 8k2 resistor, which maintains the circuit at a balanced intermediate level of current, allowing the system to detect both obstacles and potential faults in the circuit. In the event of deformation or crushing, the two metal contacts of the sensor come into contact, closing the circuit and either blocking or reversing the motor’s movements. Is ACBB designed to take misalignment? Yesterday when a gearbox manufacturer while testing a high speed gearbox on his test rig was facing heavy abnormal noise and could not identify the reason due to the fact that Vibration data, Thermography was showing normal. During ultrasound inspection I could find some surprise noise from the assembled ACBB in pair which was not supposed to, as the assembly is very rigid and tight fit which will never allow for deflection or movements unlike SRB which is designed to take 15Deg arc misalignment and decided to stop the gearbox and go for bearing inspection. During bearing inspection we found one bearing cage had deflection which could be due to brutal force applied during bearing mounting which went un noticed leading for this abnormal noise during testing. After bearing replacement the gearbox was smooth and cleared the internal testing and finally ready for customer dispatch. A silly mistake while bearing mounting can take away your Hard time, Money and Delay your customer's delivery commitments.
