🎄 Will Your Christmas Party be a Celebration or a Liability? 🛑
Christmas parties are a great way of showing appreciation for your team’s hard work; it's an opportunity for staff to let their hair down, have some fun, celebrate the year's successes and build camaraderie - but they also come with responsibilities.
Are you confident that your business is prepared to navigate any potential challenges during the festive season? Whether it’s ensuring workplace standards are upheld at a company party, handling issues of inappropriate behaviour, or mitigating risks tied to alcohol consumption, setting clear expectations is key.
If you’re organising an event this year, then make sure you are not exposing yourself to any liabilities. Why not have a chat with Berdene Kilbride at Lodge Court. Lodge Court stands out for its tailored, proactive HR solutions that not only address immediate concerns - such as drafting the right communications to keep the season merry and professional - but also help you build a culture of trust, safety, and compliance that will ensure your team feel both safe and valued.
I can't recommend them highly enough and Berdene can point you in the right direction.

Some ground rules to lay down before the Christmas party ⬇️🎅🎄
Christmas is a great excuse for everyone to let their hair down and have some fun 🎉
Whether you’re in your usual working environment.
Or at a party you’ve organised.
It’s your responsibility to keep everyone safe.
And you’re also liable for any acts of discrimination, harassment or victimisation your employees commit ❌
So, before any festivities, it’s essential to consider the following:
✅ Remind employees that the party is a time for fun and for you to say thank you for their hard work this year.
✅ Explain that any social event you organise is technically an ‘extension of the workplace.’
✅ Reinforce that appropriate workplace behaviour still applies and that anything inappropriate won’t be tolerated.
✅ Give examples of unacceptable behaviour, such as sexual harassment, and clearly outline what constitutes such behaviour.
✅ Remind employees about alcohol use and ensure they don’t drive or come to work intoxicated the next day.
If you’d like help drafting some communications to make sure you’re covered, get in touch!
