Nice moment of ocean mapping! exploring charts and my project study area during our expedition for the last semester of my journey in the applied ocean technology masters ate the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland. creating a coastal digital elevation model is challenging and important for our coastal areas hazard mitigation. going in depth on vertical datums fundamentals and transformation between datums, in addition to exploring ways to interpolate the gaps between data. for more advanced and accurate representation for this kind of informative data, i took one step for enhancing my knowledge to be part of serving the coastal region from climate change and any hazard may face. #hydrospatail #arcgispro #charts #oceanmapping #cdem

An invisible barrier that repels birds? Meet Symterra Pulse. For years, Kiwi companies have relied on traditional methods of bird control -spikes, netting, gels, and even the occasional scarecrow! Today, we can tackle bird pest problems more quickly, effectively, and humanely with cutting-edge technology like Symterra Pulse. By sending out an electromagnetic signal, Symterra Pulse creates an invisible barrier that birds instinctively avoid, simply encouraging them to fly away. If you’re curious to learn more, connect with me on LinkedIn. #BirdControl #SymterraPulse

🐋Be Greener with #TPS’s proven environmental benefits. A recent study in the Gulf of Mexico compared conventional airgun arrays with the Tuned Pulse Source (TPS) to assess impacts on marine mammals. 🔎Results show TPS reduces sound exposure, minimizing disturbance and masking effects, especially for high-frequency species. 👉Request the full report here: https://lnkd.in/erd4MTaR #BetterSaferGreener #TunedPulseSource #SustainableSeismic

🌃 I'm sure you've also seen the moving stars at night, explaining to your kid, mom, dad, friend, dog, self that those are actually no stars, but satellites. Here's an extra story line to further impress your audience ;-). 🌊 Global Fishing Watch is an international nonprofit that wants to make ocean activities more transparent. Their mission is to create and publicly share map visualizations, data, and analysis tools to enable scientific research and transform the way our ocean is managed. They are now stepping up their game by using satellite data to map small vessel activity. 🎣 Vessels at sea are typically monitored with GPS-based technologies like AIS (Automatic Identification Systems) and VMS (Vessel Monitoring Systems). One of the challenges GFW is facing are the many small fishing boats that don't use any tracking systems, making it hard to monitor their activities. By mapping the activities of smaller vessels close to shore using satellite data, GFW can add several million more previously untracked vessels to their platform. 💚 Paul Woods, co-founder and chief innovation officer of Global Fishing Watch explains that “This brings us much closer to achieving our audacious goal of mapping all human activity at sea—for both the good of the ocean and the people whose livelihoods depend on healthy fisheries and marine ecosystems.” 🤯 Mind-blowing if you really think about it 👉 Source article from Planet: https://lnkd.in/eYfRuajT (thanks for sharing Aravind Ravichandran) #OceanConservation #EarthObservation #SatelliteDataforDummies

If you are attending the Florida Association of Environmental Professionals Conference next week in Orlando, come check out our panel discussion Thursday afternoon and bring your questions, ideas, and thoughts on geospatial data. I will be sharing some case studies from Sky Wave at CDM Smith leveraging machine learning to analyze geospatial data for nature-based solutions, treatment wetlands, and invasive species mapping. Looking forward to it! #FAEP #remotesensing #machinelearning #naturebasedsolutions

A great example of how broad area monitoring is supporting sustainable land use and food security in agriculture! The government of Kazakhstan has used Planet data to identify over 1 million hectares of unused arable land in the country, reallocating it for small agricultural production. They are also enhancing food security by using Planet data for crop identification and yield forecasts which are provided to small-scale farmers throughout the country to optimize their planning and increase their overall productivity.
In collaboration with Kazakhstan’s national space operator KGS Space Technology, Planet satellite data is enabling their government to conduct full country-wide monitoring, scaling insights into agriculture, deforestation, and illegal dumping. In better news….delighted that Montrose Estates' Gartincaber Farm has been selected as one of 170 UK farms taking part in the £5M, 5-year AHDB & QMS funded Environment Baselining Project. This is really important work which will be used to inform wider sector climate mitigation and environmental action priorities. The following activities will take place on farm: - Aerial LIDAR scanning to assess above-ground carbon stocks in trees and hedges, as well as mapping run-off risk - Assessment of field soil carbon levels - Soil analysis - Carbon audit and action plan One aspect I can't wait for is to be able to compare the results of the soil carbon sampling in rough pasture, improved pasture and woodlands. Which will prove to be the largest carbon store on the farm? For more info on the pilot see here https://lnkd.in/dejq8UJ8

#DriX is also back for our NA164 expedition, but this time, the Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping / NOAA-UNH Joint Hydrographic Center’s USV will be operating from shore rather than onboard #EVNautilus. This 7.7-m-long uncrewed surface vehicle is outfitted with multiple sonars and communication tools. During the expedition, DriX will leave its shore-based station in #PagoPago to join our multi-vehicle collaboration efforts at sea. A particular focus of this expedition will be to use DriX’s EK80 fisheries #sonar to characterize water column environments above seamounts and acoustic modem to communicate with #Mesobot and the #DAPLander to direct targeted sampling operations in areas with high abundances of pelagic organisms.
