It was a pleasure to connect with Vlerick Business School’s iGMO study mission of Belgian family businesses last week, to share about Singapore’s vibrant business landscape and opportunities for partnerships! 🇸🇬🇧🇪🤝 We had a lively discussion regarding some thought-provoking questions, such as: 1️⃣ “𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗱?” Singapore’s superpower is its 𝘀𝘆𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲 — HQs, R&D, manufacturing, supply chain and logistics all within a closely-knit network, making it a hotbed for innovation and collaboration between East and West. 2️⃣ “𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝟱 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲?” Singapore will need to navigate the complexities of 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗱𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀 while ensuring 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗷𝗼𝗯𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆. Thanks to Vlerick Entrepreneurship Academy's IGMO program that takes us on an international entrepreneurship mission every two years. Always very inspiring to learn together with a group of entrepreneurs. This year in Singapore, we a.o. learned to plan 30 years ahead. Amazing to see how a whole nation can transition in just a few decades, although we may not neglect it has a double face. Inspiring! #entrepreneurship #businessinnovation #transition

Today, Singapore celebrates its 59th National Day. Marking nearly six decades of remarkable progress since gaining independence in 1965. An impressive transformation from a small, resource-poor island into a global economic powerhouse. Singapore's journey is a testament to: Visionary leadership Strategic planning Audacious implementation Resilience of its people Singapore's GDP has seen impressive growth, from approximately USD 1 billion in 1965 to over USD 500 billion in 2023. The nation consistently ranks among the world's top economies with a GDP per capita of USD 85,000+ (2023). Singapore’s strategic location, pro-business policies, and robust legal framework have made it a preferred destination for multinational corporations and startups alike. Singapore’s Changi Airport, one of the world's busiest and most awarded airports, serves over 59 million passengers annually and connects to 400+ cities across 100 countries worldwide. Singapore Airlines, known for its exceptional service and operational excellence, consistently ranks among the world's top airlines. Singapore is more than a popular stopover destination. There’s growing interest right now in expanding into Singapore, and I love being on the frontline, helping Australian businesses explore the opportunities this market offers. This morning, I enjoyed participating in a Fireside Chat with Global Coach, Justine Campbell, and CUB Club of United Business members in Australia. We explored why Singapore holds so much potential and unpacked the common questions businesses have when considering this move. Singapore is close to my heart, and seeing the incredible growth opportunities here never gets old. So, why Singapore? It’s not just its strategic location—Singapore is a thriving hub for many areas including: • Digital • Green Economy • Health/Medical • Agribusiness/Food It’s not just about getting a foot in the door—it’s about long-term success. While quick wins are great, sustained success in Singapore’s fast-moving market comes from being agile and understanding its unique cultural landscape. Breaking into a new market can sometimes feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it alone. AustCham Singapore provides a platform for people to make meaningful connections and facilitates sharing insights to support your journey. If you’re an Australian business looking to expand into Singapore, I’d love to hear from you and welcome you to the AustCham community!

In my coaching, I believe in bringing my clients along for the journey—creating opportunities, making connections, and pushing boundaries. From co-hosting roundtable discussions with them to inviting clients on stage during a TEDx talk, I'm always seeking out-of-the-box approaches to help them grow. This week, I had the privilege of interviewing a client in her new role as Executive Director of AustCham Singapore, diving into the hot topic of entering the Singapore market. This wasn’t just talk—it was about taking real, tangible steps that create impact. So many want success at an intellectual level, but aren’t prepared to push through the discomfort to make it a reality. That’s the difference with the people I work with—they do the work. They walk the talk. As Sue-Ann said, entering the Singaporean market isn’t a plug-and-play solution. It takes grit and ACTION to make it happen, but having that solid base that Singapore offers is so powerful. Watch this space—#Singapore is where big things are happening. And to Sue-Ann Wilson....You ROCK!!

I had the chance to accompany FGV Holdings Berhad Chairman, YBhg. Tan Sri Rastam Mohd Isa, to the 47th Annual General Meeting (“ÄGM”) of Malaysia-Japan Economic Association (“MAJECA”). MAJECA is a bilateral organisation established to foster closer economic ties between the private sectors of Malaysia and Japan through annual economic forums and other activities. It was founded during a Joint Conference in Kuala Lumpur on November 14, 1977. The MAJECA President YBhg. Tan Sri Azman Hashim, “The entrepreneur Banker”, emphasised the following key points in his address: • Emphasizing the importance of Malaysia-Japan bilateral relations, the Japan-Malaysia Economic Association (“JAMECA”) hosted the 40th JAMECA-MAJECA joint conference, which focused on reconnecting and co-creation. • Acknowledging the critical need for enhanced business collaborations to achieve sustainable resilience amid the ever-changing and volatile global economic landscape. • Stressing the significance of closer partnerships between Japanese counterparts and respective governments to boost innovation, technology adoption, and digitalisation within the business communities. • Highlight how past, current and future MAJECA events assist the private sectors, startups, and SME industries in leapfrogging, remaining competitive, and sustainable. Suppose you are in digital services, industrial parts and components, or technical and consulting services, and have a keen interest in and need access to Japanese business markets. In that case, MAJECA is the ideal association for you. #FGVPower #FGVPRIDE
