Often people ask me "How do I become an auditor?" . First up, have years of work (& life) experience working in the food industry. The more different food industry sectors you have worked in, the more auditing "codes" you will get & your chances of getting a auditing job goes up. No don't think you can be a food safety auditor straight out of uni/college. But do get a degree, ideally food technology, but many standards will accept a range of science degrees. Undertake HACCP (registered & assessed) & food safety training along the way. Then you need to sit a 40hr (5 day) assessed food safety lead auditors course. There are many to choose from. ICS will be delivering (virtually & face to face in Brisbane Aust) the BRCGS Lead Auditor course on Feb 10-14 2025. I would love to see you there. I had just got off a "Deadliest Catch" Crab boat, after auditing crab processing plants in the Aleutian Islands. There is a worldwide shortage of food safety auditors.
