New research paper about trust in science across 68 countries by Viktoria Cologna and colleagues: “in most countries, most people trust scientists and agree that scientists should engage more in society and policymaking. We found variations between and within countries, which we explain with individual- and country-level variables, including political orientation. While there is no widespread lack of trust in scientists, we cannot discount the concern that lack of trust in scientists by even a small minority may affect considerations of scientific evidence in policymaking. “ https://lnkd.in/e9R8HsXK

"The Risks of Scientific Gerontocracy" by A. Houssard et al. https://buff.ly/4j1etso Scientific literature has witnessed decades of exponential growth (the publications of the last 20 years now constitute 60% of all aca literature). The decreasing proportion of papers capturing large shares of attention and the slow turnover of influential papers lead to a disproportionate prominence of established works, resulting in stagnation and aging of scientific canons.
