Excited to dig into the thoughts and reflections of my fellow International Education practitioners! Check out page 155 to see the piece I co-authored with Andrew Solem, M.A..
I am very proud to share the publication of CEA CAPA's 11th occasional paper, Reviewing the Situation: The Changing Landscape of Education Abroad. This publication was the result of conversations started at the Woolf Symposium hosted by Craig Rinker and Georgetown University in May of 2023 and features provocative contributions from Anna Kraczyna, Keshia Abraham, PhD, Andrea Custodi, Ph.D., Anna Kelly, Hannah Feinberg, Andrew Solem, M.A., Christopher Trimby, Emily Resnevic, Maxwell Chappuis, Julia Miller, Ebony Ellis Christina "Chris" Thompson (she/her/hers), Andrew Palmacci, and Brian Henry. The publication would not have been possible without the additional support, work, and efforts of Anthony Gristwood, Andrea Custodi, Ph.D., and most importantly Shawna Parker and Michael Woolf. Let's keep the conversation going! https://lnkd.in/gbxbGgJa

It has been a conference-packed fortnight! What a great 10th Researcher Education and Development Scholarship Conference today. Mind you, there is nothing like finding yourself doing a surprise paper on 36 hours to keep you on your toes (thanks to Ruth Currie for being chill about my repurposing our work on "Holding Space for Reflective Supervisory Praxis" from CoPhS last week!). My 3 top highlights from today were: ⭐ The compelling Keynote from Faith Uwadiae about how research leadership starts from self-leadership: there is no need for titles, we all lead. I loved her circle reflective questions (1) Who am I? (2) How do others experience me? (3) Where am I leading now? (4) What type of leader do I want to be in those spaces? ⭐ The inspiring paper from Anna Brady about how to take a whole-organisation approach to re-building trust and bring adaptive leadership into entrenched and problematic organisational cultures. ⭐ Finally Selvi Jeyaseelan and Julie Reeves left me with not one (RE-AIM: Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, implementation, maintenance) but two (KAP: Knowledge Attitudes Practices) important models to build with when planning the 2025 suite of University of Glasgow Talent Lab research leadership programmes (https://lnkd.in/eDNu7Cx7)
📢Today is the day of the 10th Researcher Education and Development Scholarship Conference #REDS2024. 👋We’re looking forward to welcoming Conference Chair Kay Guccione, Keynote Speaker Faith Uwadiae and our presenters to talk to participants about ‘Developing Research Leaders Fit for the Future’. 📚https://lnkd.in/e4-sGjRz We have an exciting day of presentations ahead!

Yes! Is the response I get from doctoral students who want to re-join Research Central in 2025 to help them get their studies over the line. They are returning to be mentored by experienced independent researchers who really care about their wellbeing. Us mentors know how many shiny things you encounter along the way. We are here as your research travel guides, expertly taking you to well visited places that you have not been to before. We are now 3 years old at Research Central - our online community of practice for higher degree students who are mostly doing a PhD. We have 2 of our doctoral students now addressing reviewer comments on their submitted dissertations, and we had a small role to play in making that happen. If you would like to fast track your research in 2025, join us at Research Central with Frada Burstein $89 month for individuals, or buy an institutional licence. https://lnkd.in/gkPBHy9h

ANGELA MARIA MATHEW is an honoured Graduate Research Excellence Scholarship (GRES) recipient. Angela shares on receiving the financial aid, "It helps me to ensure my safety and health. A luxury life cannot be guaranteed, but if you manage your expenses carefully, then you can sustain yourself." Her advice to students looking to apply for a scholarship is, "Since scholarship applications are unequivocally competitive, prospective students should focus more on improving their publications. If you have publications in Q1 journals, then you will have a better chance of cracking the scholarship. If not, try your best to publish your work in a trusted and impactful journal." It is hard to grasp the shadows the Yugoslav war cast on generations of people, affecting not only those who directly faced its adversities but also those who inherited its residual echoes. In such circumstances, political leaders continue to exploit the fears by maintaining divisions along ethnic lines, portraying themselves as protectors in the past and guardians in the present. However, there is a persistent hope mostly among the younger generations that the possibility of joining the European Union might spark positive transformations. The aspiration to become a part of the Union serves as a significant motivator for the populace. Yet, the European Union, grappling with its own internal complexities and border security issues, seems to implement ineffective policies for the wider Southeast European region, while the tensions in the region are on the rise. Simultaneously, regional political entrepreneurs are, in a somewhat ironic twist, bargaining with the regional stability —which they had previously destabilized—as a bargaining chip in exchange for various European Union support. This support ranges from economic assistance to political endorsements, instrumental in maintaining their political dominance. Concurrently, in interactions with their constituencies, these leaders manipulate the appealing prospect of European integration. They know that the promise of EU membership resonates deeply with the citizenry's aspirations, thus ensuring electoral support. The manipulation occurs within a broader understanding of previous war traumas, and the European Union's cautious stance on expansion ensures only gradual implementation of democratic reforms in the region. Therefore, the regional leaders deflect any responsibility for delays in accession onto the EU, thereby circumventing accountability for their governance shortcomings in the view of their electorate. My PhD journey and this complex research has been supported by invaluable financial and academic assistance from the University of Luxembourg and Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR), for which I am incredibly grateful. On this occasion, however, I want to express a heartfelt thank you to the Pierre Werner Foundation Fondation de Luxembourg for recognizing the significance of my work and providing their support. I am committed to maintaining a high standard of excellence and meeting all expectations as I continue this journey. 😊
🎉We are delighted to introduce the 4 outstanding Doctoral Researchers who have been selected for the 2024 Pierre Werner Scholarship.
