#Interview at Amix Tech Right after we announce our arrival to MIAMI, we connected with friends and people we consider are key decision makers in the local ecosystem. Amix Tech Lab ( www.amixtechlab.com ) is a technology business accelerator platform that started in MEXICO right after I was visiting TEXAS post pandemic when I was a #DigitalNomad and we are a bridge between LATAM with Austin-Dallas-Houston-San Antonio, Boston and London thanks to local partners. Our focus is to offer services for opening new markets, Business Development and strategic partners, supporting CEOs and Founders of Latin American and European companies to do soft-landing and improve their sales through bootstrapping techniques to find clients. We connected with Mati Barbero, who is the Co-Founder & COO at Schoolin1, an EdTech App (Miami-based) operating in the USA as a SaaS or «SIS» (Student Information System) for K12 schools (kindergarten to 12th grade). 1. Tell us what has been the main difficulty for the growth of Schoolin1. Education is one, if not the most, of the hardest industries to penetrate. Specially when expanding from LatAm to the US; 1) Barriers to entry 2) Non-tech industry 3) Lack of innovation in the last 10-15 years 4) Long sales cycles Today, with Schoolin1, the all-in-one SIS App for K12 schools, we are challenging the above bullet points but it’s far from easy. Even with the round raised which would mean we could do marketing, it’s still a 1×1 conversation through months with decision-makers in order to win certain deals. This might not sound inspiring to whoever is looking to develop EdTech in the States. Well… it’s true, this industry is tough! ❓“What is the business decision you made that has really impacted the EIT Deep Tech Talent Initiative? " 🤔This question, asked by a sharp colleague at a workshop in Milan last March, has made me think. 1️⃣If I had to choose one decision, it would be this: listening to our partners. 🤝🏽 The Deep Tech Talent Initiative is achieving its objectives through its partners. 🎯 To reach our goal of 1 million talents, we need our pledgers. They create training programs, they find the students, and they run the courses. 👂That’s why it is crucial for me and the team to be in contact with our pledgers, to listen to their insights, and to gather what are their interests, motivations, and expectations upon joining the initiative. 🔝As the project has reached its midterm, I am setting myself a new priority. 🔗Back in late March, our network had over 100 pledgers. 📞Of all the project tasks, I paid special attention to outreach. I would take calls with prospects, debrief with our excellent Head of Outreach Francesca Barisani, PhD, reach out to my own network, and encourage others to pass contacts. 💕Thanks to many colleagues, with special mention of Margarita Abakova and our AB member Caroline Mol. 📈 Now, in early July, thanks to these team efforts, our number of partners nears 370. 👫👭Hence, my new priority will be connecting, talking to, and meeting pledgers online and in real life. 👂Keeping my ear close to the ground. ❔Asking: what do you want from the Deep Tech Talent Initiative? How can we help you? How can we achieve our goal together? 🇪🇺All in order to have an impact on the deep tech ecosystem in Europe.

The TechFoundHer Bootcamp in the gorgeous Dublin City Hall was everything you needed regardless of the stage of your start-up. Niamh Shaw, PhD would inspire any young women to get into STEM, and reminded us that women have always been in tech. This isn't a new concept, “stop thinking we don't have permission, grab your moonshot!”. Áine Kerr encouraged you again to ‘own your moonshot’ and to consider questions like "What would you do if you weren't afraid?" and "What impact do you want to have?". A powerful session that was profoundly inspiring and interactive, with exceptionally practical advice and valuable takeaways. The discussions centred on AI were truly eye-opening. If you ever get the chance to see Dr Lollie Mancey speak - do not miss out! The gender bias we are still being fed by many AI systems requires immediate attention and corrective measures. However, she also discussed the ‘conscious collaboration and connection’ we must have with AI - “AI will not replace innovators. But innovators who use AI will replace those who don't". And I loved Shana Chu’s reminder that ALL businesses are tech companies now and that you can be a non-techie founder. Check out her amazing company Tailr 👚👗 The Funding and Investment discussions provided valuable insights into the perspectives of financiers and venture capitalists, breaking down their criteria and preferences 💸 There is an undeniable imbalance in funding for women founded tech companies at the moment but Amy Neale (Delta Partners VC) and Ellen McCance Pinschmidt (MiddleGame Ventures) implore you to keep trying, you are exactly the people they want to hear from. Hit them up 😊 "Have no shame in asking for money!" (Anna-Marie Turley, Enterprise Ireland). A challenge that women founders may encounter to a greater extent than their male counterparts. If you want to make valuable connections; have a community of support; feel comfortable asking any question of experts who genuinely want to give you practical and insightful advice for your business; AND feel energised and inspired - get involved in TechFoundHer! Máirín Murray, I've never been in a room full of better energy, with a network of founders and future founders from such diverse backgrounds and demographics, who were being so supported by the incredible people you gathered. Why women need better options for wealth management : Research studies have found that these sentiments were more pervasive than we could have imagined. For example: - Making more than $250,000 a year don’t feel in control of their money. - Women, particularly women of color, are still , sorely underrepresented in the financial services industry, meaning a woman who needs a financial advisor most likely won’t be working with someone who understands her. Took a week off, but now I’m back and diving into DC Start Up & Tech Week! As someone who sits at the intersection of tech and education, events like this are critical for staying ahead of the curve. This week, I’m gearing up for some insightful AI panels, game-changing speakers, and the latest in tech innovation—and I’m hyped! 🚀 But here’s the thing... I’m expecting to see a lot of tech professionals and startups, but not many (if any) current educators. That’s a problem. Schools are often the last to catch up with what’s happening in the real world, and they lack the infrastructure for quick change. While the tech industry moves forward, students risk getting left behind. That’s exactly why we’re still on our mission to support 10,000 students with the college and career guidance they need to thrive in a tech-driven future. This gap can’t stay open any longer.
