Feeling Frustrated: A Newcomer’s Job Hunt I moved to Australia earlier this year, excited to contribute my extensive experience in delivering iconic construction projects at the highest international standards. However, the job hunt has been more challenging than anticipated. Despite my qualifications and experience, many recruiters and employers have expressed concerns about my lack of “local experience.” Unfortunately, it seems that 'local experience' is often narrowly defined as experience gained within Australian work cultures and practices. Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of collaborating with multinational teams from the UK, South Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. On certain projects, we even adapted portions of the Australian Standards to ensure project success. But it seems it's worth little to the "local market". I’m curious to know: How did you navigate a new job market when you first moved to a new country? Did you encounter similar challenges? #jobhunt #newtoaustralia #construction #engineering #globalexperience #localexperience #EngineersAustralia

Why Waiting Until the New Year Could Cost You Your Next Opportunity Over the past few weeks, I’ve had several conversations with professionals in Sydney’s property development and construction market who believe now isn’t the right time to explore new opportunities. The common reasoning? "The market’s slow at this time of year—I’ll wait until January." Here’s the reality: many of the companies I’m working with are actively looking to secure top talent before the Christmas break. For these employers, wrapping up recruitment now is a strategic priority—it ensures they can start the new year with their teams fully in place and hit the ground running. This means the roles you’re holding off pursuing may no longer be available in 2025. By waiting, you risk missing out on opportunities that are open now but could be filled before January. If you’re considering a career move, it might be time to challenge the assumption that “the market is slow” and take a closer look. The coming weeks could be the perfect time to land your next role and head into the holidays knowing you’re all set to start fresh in the new year. Curious about what’s out there? Let’s have a conversation—I’d be happy to help you explore the opportunities available right now. #recruitment #careeropportunities #constructionjobs #projectmanagement #propertydevelopment #sydney

Just some walkthrough around my thoughts with almost 4 months in Sydney. 1. I started working as a labourer. First, I hated it. All I could think of was “why did I studied this much to be an engineer to ending up coming to a foreign country to work on something I cannot stand?” 2. Since I didn’t like it, I changed to hospitality. Started better, but after a week, the same ideas were popping up on my mind. 3. Came back to laboring, this time with some friends. I started to enjoy it. I mean, how bad can be to get money out of smashing stuff, it’s pretty fun. 4. I moved to work for someone for a month, who decided not to pay me. Now I’m broke and I have to start over my laboring job search. 5. Actual moment. Back in laboring, working very hard but smiling. Why? Because without knowing, this experience has been as rough as it could be, but there’s a ton of things about myself I wouldn’t know if I wasn’t here. Even though I have sent nearly 3000 resumes already, with not a single interview, I’ll keep going. Why ? Because now I know a ton of things more about myself than 4 months ago. If you’re here in Australia, struggling with the same thoughts that I had. Keep going, you will find the “why?”s later on. And for the rest of the recruiters out there, remember that even I look like this now, I’m an industrial engineer and IT Project Manager ready to help your team ✍️ #australia #whv #skilledvisa #itprojectmanagement #opentowork

RELOCATING FOR A DREAM JOB? HERE'S WHAT I WISH I HAD KNOWN BEFORE MOVING HALFWAY ACROSS THE COUNTRY. The dream job offer is there, and all that stands between you and an exciting new opportunity is a cross-country move. But is it worth it? When relocating for a role that aligns perfectly with your professional goals, it's tempting to assume everything else will fall into place. But I've learned that there is much more to the equation. A crucial question to ask is: What's the work culture really like beyond the recruitment phase? It's easy for things to feel different once the day-to-day reality kicks in. Before taking that plunge, take time to get a clear sense of the workplace vibe - ideally from more than one source. Have you ever made a big move for a role? What would you suggest to others? #relocationforjob #crosscountrymove #workplaceculture

What’s the Harm in a Conversation? 🤔 If you're a construction professional—even if you're not actively looking for a new role—consider this: having a conversation about a new opportunity costs you nothing but a few minutes of your time. Here’s why it might be worth exploring: ✅ Market Insights: Learn about the latest opportunities in your field and what top employers are offering in terms of salary, benefits, and career progression. ✅ Future-Proofing: Even if you're happy in your current role, understanding the market can help you plan for future career growth. ✅ No Obligation: You’re under no pressure to make a move—this is simply about exploring what’s out there. And here’s something important to consider: Loyalty to your company is admirable, but it’s not always reciprocated. Companies evolve, priorities shift, and restructuring happens. The loyalty you’ve shown may not guarantee long-term stability or growth for you. Sometimes, being open to new opportunities isn’t about leaving—it’s about knowing your worth, understanding your options, and ensuring your career is aligned with your goals. The best opportunities often come when you least expect them. A simple conversation could reveal a role that offers better alignment with your ambitions, a new challenge, or even a better work-life balance. In the construction industry, where great talent is always in demand, staying informed and open-minded can be your best asset. Are you open to exploring what’s next? Let’s talk! 💬 #ConstructionCareers #PassiveJobSearch #CareerOpportunities #ConstructionIndustry #KnowYourWorth
