I got hit by a balloon! Last week, I visited New York and had the chance to explore some of its iconic skyscrapers. While The Edge offered a fantastic open-air space with beautiful views and great lounge music, it was The Summit that really caught my attention. What made it stand out? Simple party balloons. Yes, you read that right! They created an entire floor filled with regular balloons, and yet, for my daughter, it was the ultimate photo opportunity—the perfect Instagram pic. This made me think about the importance of creating unique and memorable experiences within tourism products. In today’s world, it’s not just about the destination, but about how you make visitors feel, what you give them to share, and the moments they remember. We say that over and over, but here is the proof. User-Generated Content (UGC) plays a powerful role in modern tourism. Simple elements, like balloons in The Summit, can create impactful experiences that guests love to capture and share. Game of Thrones and Emily in Paris are among the most influential TV shows on European tourism, according to a new study from Bókun, a Tripadvisor company It reveals that set jetting is one of the biggest travel trends influencing consumers today. Saltburn's Drayton House, in Northamptonshire UK, saw searches soar 600% after its release in December 2023. London is estimated to have acquired more than £12.3m in revenue through TV location tours, including the Poirot Tour of London by Black Cab, the Killing Eve self-guided audio tour, and the Ted Lasso Tour of Richmond. Visit Britain also revealed that 70% of UK tourists who have taken a leisure trip in the past decade have visited a film or TV location, highlighting the significant influence of the entertainment industry on destination demand. Game of Thrones has been the most influential show on European tourism, with more than 107 themed tours across the continent. These are estimated to have generated more than £44m for the European economy, which is around £605,000 in tourist revenue per episode. In France, 18 themed Emily in Paris tours generated around £1,391,000.

Hosting four concerts at La Défense Arena, Swift’s tour is attracting significant American visitor numbers, with over 200 luxury trips planned, focusing on three-night stays at elite Parisian hotels like Plaza Athénée and Le Bristol, Embark Beyond’s statistics have shown. Many travelers, often mother-daughter pairs, are also planning their trips around shopping sprees and about 20% have extended their trips to other European destinations.
