Which dialysis is right for me? Choosing the right type of dialysis is a personal journey that depends on your age, medical history, lifestyle, and preferences. Dialysis, a vital renal replacement therapy, helps your body eliminate waste when your kidneys can't. There are two main types of dialysis: Haemodialysis: the most common form, involves filtering your blood through a machine. This treatment usually takes place at a clinic, three times a week for about four hours each session. Peritoneal dialysis: uses the lining of the abdomen (peritoneum) to filter blood which allows you to perform the treatment at home daily. It's ideal for those who prefer a flexible schedule and can manage the process with minimal support. Understanding your options and discussing them with your healthcare provider will help you make the best choice for your health and lifestyle. When considering dialysis, it's very important to understand the two types of dialysis to make an informed decision and the right choice for your life. 1. Hemodialysis: This process uses a machine to filter blood, removing waste and excess fluids. Typically done in a clinic or hospital, sessions last 3-5 hours thrice a week. 2.Peritoneal Dialysis: This method utilizes the lining of the abdomen and allows for treatment at home, providing flexibility to perform exchanges during the day or overnight. Our nephrologists at SKA will help you determine the best type of dialysis for your lifestyle and health needs. According to recent research, 90% of kidney clinicians would choose an at-home dialysis modality if they needed it themselves. In contrast, only 13% of patients in America currently receive dialysis at home. Home dialysis offers a number of benefits including flexibility, reduced travel time for patients, and lower costs, but limitations to expand this treatment modality remain. -- explore more and read the full op-ed discussion: https://lnkd.in/ekBmvQZ6 #RenalDialysis #CostContainment #SpecialtyCM #learnmorein2024
