Today the priorities of the next European Commission term have been announced. The stakes are high and so are the ambitions to build a sustainable and competitive European high-tech ecosystem. The work we are doing at ImpaQT UA to accelerate the quantum market in Europe and to build European quantum value chains will be a test of how innovation policy and strategic investments play out in a real environment for Europe’s future. With economic security taking a lead position in the framing of future policy actions in the EU I have joined CEPS (Centre for European Policy Studies) as an Associate to advance key debates around quantum technologies in this new term.

The ERIC Regulation offers an efficient framework for creating RIs, but its implementation has posed several challenges as #ERICs navigate complex landscapes. In this interview conducted as part of the ERIC Forum 2 project, Luc van Dyck (Euro-Argo ERIC) shares recommendations from the Work Package 12 Team on how to address these challenges. 💬 “What I would like to stress is that, as conceived, the ERIC Regulation provides a unique and wonderful framework for the creation of research infrastructures. It is not perfect, but it is truly a European success story.” The #ERIC concept has been pivotal in implementing the European Research Area (#ERA), providing a clear legal framework for governance, operations, and scientific endeavours. 👉 However, despite its significance, the implementation of the ERIC regulation has encountered challenges. From governance and financial sustainability to varying national laws and VAT exemptions, #ERICs have navigated through complex landscapes, each presenting its own set of hurdles. The #ERICForum2 project has addressed these challenges by establishing an internal team (WP12) tasked with creating a list of recommendations on how to address the challenges related to the ERIC Regulation and its implementation. Luc van Dyck (Euro-Argo ERIC), the WP12 Lead, recounts the team's work, the challenges the ERIC community considers most pressing, and the team's future prospects.
