When the City of Winnipeg's upgrades to its wastewater treatment facility are complete in 2030, they’ll include equipment to extract agricultural-grade phosphate fertilizer from the struvite in the city’s wastewater. A slow-release phosphorus source could be available to plants for several years after a single application. And struvite, BTW, is better known as a culprit behind kidney stones. We’d build greens in a controlled environment, place fertilizers and different types of chemicals on them, and capture the drainage from underneath them. Why? To learn what worked to grow the grass but also what was environmentally beneficial in terms of management and construction. https://lnkd.in/eCCfunnf

Managing high #sludge #waste is a significant challenge for industries that rely heavily on chemical processes. Sludge waste—typically a dense, semi-solid mixture of used #solvents, residues, and contaminants—poses both environmental and financial challenges. However, advanced #solventrecovery techniques have transformed the way companies handle this waste, turning what was once a costly disposal problem into an opportunity for resource recovery.
