We invite you to apply for the AFP-GPC IDEA Fellowship. Did you know that with every event ticket you purchase from Sesh Coworking the proceeds go directly supporting local non-profits, community organizations and businesses for women, communities of color and the LGBTQ+ community through providing them space??? Why do these organizations need complimentary or discounted space? Because often times the funding they receive from grants or the government is restricted to hiring, wages, or equipment. Not very often does it provide funding for space to hold board meetings, community gatherings, workshops or volunteer events. https://lnkd.in/g2_uuBtU

😍 The last couple of weeks have been filled with volunteer and nonprofit work, and let me tell you...it's heart filling! 😍 📚 From volunteering with WomenTech Network during their annual Global Tech conference to participating in F5's quarterly Volunteer Sprints, where I was able to help Embrace of Celebration to organize and manage documentation. The opportunities and learnings have been abundant. 💥 What I am most excited to share though, is the nonprofit organization that my wife and I made happen after years of talking about wanting to create something that will allow us to give back to the LGBTQ community by providing opportunities for support, service and funding. Our initiatives are about Doing Something Already! ⚡ Do Something Already works towards transformational initiatives to advance equity, opportunity, and justice for LGBTQ+ people in all communities across the Pacific Northwest. Working toward supporting an environment of Joy, Caring, Positivity, Optimism and Understanding. Our Collective uses the tools of Art and Engagement to support and fund our featured initiatives, as well as additional activities throughout the year. Our initiatives include: ➡ MLK Day of Service - providing volunteer opportunities to better community. ➡ DSA Gives Juneteenth - supporting Black owned small businesses. ➡ Julian Wehde Memorial Scholarship - Providing LGBTQ+ youth access to funds to promote art and theater endeavors. ➡ DSA Gives for the Holidays - From feeding families to providing holiday gifts, the DSA Gives is there to help support the community during the holiday season. 🆘 At this time, we are literally just getting started and need your support. While we have great initiatives on our roadmap, none of those can happen without funding. With luck, we were able to quickly get approved to participate in this May's GiveBIG fundraising campaign and are hoping we can ask you to be one of our founding donors! Thank you for checking us out, welcome all questions! 💰 https://lnkd.in/gNJT-j9k #GIVEBIG #thatgivingfeeling #DoSomethingAlready

"Foundations allocated less than 4 cents per $100 of their total giving to U.S. trans communities and issues." -- 2021 Tracking Report: LGBTQ Grantmaking by U.S. Foundations It's been 3 years. What do you think has changed since then? The truth is, I don't know for sure, but I highly speculate that these 4 cents have not increased significantly, if at all. Point of Pride is unique in that our largest fundraiser each year comes directly from the community we serve. In just 2 years, we've seen over 70,000 individuals from the trans, nonbinary, gender-diverse communities, and our allies make donations, averaging $44 each. This community-driven funding constitutes a significant portion of our annual budget, supporting our 5 direct-service programs. I'm grateful for any person, company, or foundation that recognizes life-saving gender-affirming care as a fundamental right for all trans and nonbinary people. As we move into the second half of 2024, I hope to see this support grow rather than shrink, despite the challenging political climate surrounding transgender healthcare and access rights.

Many of us in the LGBTQ+ Community know that even if VP Harris had won the election, we still would have plenty of work to do to move forward. Now that she did not win, we need to do more. And we know "Hard work is good work." It’s time to take action! 💪 Get involved in your community: 🚨 Do not listen to what Trump or his minions say. Watch what they do. 🚨 🌟 Support local initiatives: Join groups, the PTA, and be on the board of non-profits. 💸 Donate to nonprofits: Contribute dollars and volunteer your time, especially for LGBT, trans, abused women, and other marginalized groups. 🛍️ Support small businesses: Especially those owned by historically underrepresented folks. 🤝 Work with professionals who share your values: Even in red states, there are local chambers like GSBA in Seattle that support LGBT businesses. 🔍 Google the services you need: Many find us at @PlanningForGood by searching for LGBT financial planners. 🌐 Join networking groups: Groups like Females and Finance promote women in financial services and support LGBT, Black and Brown, and neurodivergent communities. 🏢 Work for a company that shares your values: Culture still counts! Employers who treat their employees well are often those who do well financially. And if you’re a financial planner looking for a new home for your practice, we at Planning For Good would love to talk to you! 🌈 #SayGayWithUs #GetInvolved #SupportLocal #Donate #Volunteer #LGBT #TransRights #SupportSmallBusiness #WorkWithValues #Networking #CommunitySupport #FinancialPlanning #PlanningForGood

WHY IT MATTERS:
Thrilled that M&T Bank is supporting the Equality Community Center with $20,000 to further their mission and important work. We look forward to partnering with the ECC throughout the year and making a difference in our community! The Equality Community Center (ECC) in Portland is the first of its kind in Maine - a collaborative workplace for LGBTQ+ and allied social justice-seeking non-profit organizations while also serving as a community center for Maine’s LGBTQ+ community. My colleagues Mike Ross, Isaac Yeboah Yeboah, Katie Rooks of M&T Bank, and Wilmington Trust's Jerry Weidner of Wilmington Trust enjoyed a tour and presented a $20,000 donation to the ECC. “The funds from The M&T Charitable Foundation will support our efforts so we can continue to provide a space where everyone can be their authentic selves and thrive.” - Chris O’Connor, Executive Director, ECC Board

There are many ways to participate in today's Day of NO Silence... Pick the one that feels best for you, and do it! If we all contribute in the way that feels best for us, collectively we'll have the support that's needed across the board! (1) Use Your Platform - share student stories and resources on social media. (2) Use Your Vote - ensure that you're registered to vote (I've been unregistered in years past - double check, even if you're sure!). Encourage your friends to do the same. Also, call for updated policies to protect queer youth! (3) Use Your Time - join or host a local event for LGBTQIA2S+ youth. You can also join your local GLSEN chapter. (4) Use Your Resources - donate to GLSEN or buy merch that supports LGBTQIA2S+ programs. You could also start your own fundraiser to support queer youth! How will you show up today? Video description: Text is summarized in the caption. Background is pink and cute cartoon animations supplement the message. GLSEN's Day of Silence logo and URL is on the video. @GLSEN #DayOfNoSilence #RiseUp4LGBTQ #InclusiveMarketing

Do you know that feeling when your LGBTQ+ identity and your work life collide? Even those of us who feel comfortable in our skin 95% of the time have these moments hit us. We feel like we have to hide a part of ourselves to accomplish our jobs. Over the last 5 years, I've seen that even more prevalent with professional fundraisers. They find themselves in power dynamics that can be extremely hard to navigate. Often this can be hard to communicate with people on their team and at times, with their board. After all, they have goals to meet! This issue isn't limited to being an on-the-boots fundraising. Queer leaders in nonprofits are experiencing challenges in being the leader their nonprofit needs them to be. They are working their butts off trying to be everything for everyone. On top of it, they want to ensure their employees are heard and taken care of. They forget about themselves along the way. This is why Jonathan Meagher-Zayas, MSW, MPA, CFRE, CDP have created our leadership program. It's designed for nonprofit LGBTQ+ fundraisers who also identify as leaders in their organization. We are launching the program applications and will share more details on Monday. If you want a sneak peek at what this is, comment "Interested!" below and I'll send you the info this weekend! We can't wait to serve you! #fundraising #lgbtqia #nonprofit #leadership
