👀 Things aren't always what they seem...at least when it comes to applicants for a job posting on LinkedIn...don't be discouraged if you see a job posting shows a high amount of applicants. If you’ve ever seen a job posting on LinkedIn and felt discouraged by the number of applicants, don't be... the displayed number is misleading. Many of those applicants don't meet the basic requirements. I see recruiters posting about this often but here's my example: Recently posted an opening for an A&P mechanic. Right away I had seven applicants...very exciting; or so it seemed! Upon closer inspection, I found only one resume that met the job criteria. The other six applicants were automatically marked as not qualified because they didn't meet the requirements. This meant that only 14% of the applicants were actually viable candidates. This experience highlights that the number of applicants shown on LinkedIn isn’t a true reflection of the number of qualified candidates. So, if you are qualified, don’t hesitate to apply, even if it seems like there’s a lot of competition. Your qualifications could very well set you apart from the crowd! #JobSearchTips #LinkedInJobs #AviationCareers #JobMarketInsights #CareerAdvice #PilotJobs #AviationCommunity

I want to give a little background and have my story told of how one leap of faith brought me to countries that was previously only a tiny blip on the European map. I built my first tower crane whilst still in primary school. Of course the best materials, that I had to my disposal at the time, were used namely: wooden skewer sticks, matches and some wooden clothes pegs. When I had "screen time" as it is now called, Discovery Channel was the first and best option. Big machines, high towers, astonishing achievements and more than dedicated people. Years passed as I later went to University to obtain a Mechanical Engineering degree. Success as I landed my first official employment at a design company... Until, life happened. I found myself frantically looking for something else. Numerous cv's sent out and only one response. A position for a Junior Site Supervisor in a little Brakpan office in South Africa. As any dedicated applicant will do, I did some proper research before my interview. The excitement I had, driving there, was immense. They had me sit down and said we first want to show you a video of what our business is about and then we'll talk. As hard as it is to admit, I teared up watching a film of a Sarens crane towering up and beyond the clouds. Needless to say I was sold there and then. I already made the choice that I'll do whatever it takes to go with Sarens for as long as possible. That was baby step number one... I had a great colleague that once told me: "Never say no to any opportunity!" So, step 2 was to do anything and everything that nobody else wanted to. To put in more time and effort that I thought was needed. Step 3: I made it into the Engineering office. Here is where I learnt immensely. The work scope grew, which lead to bigger projects, which then led to bigger cranes, more spmt's... My first international project was the second time I teared up, within the Sarens context. This is the point in time that I realized the little boy with the little wooden tower crane model has made it. Suddenly the world became very small, places I've only ever heard of, became my morning views. This transitioned into step 4: to join HQ in Belgium. There are only ever two realities in life; you are a big fish in a small pond OR a small fish in a big pond. I live by the latter. I found myself surrounded by some of the greatest minds in the industry. Names that were highly spoken of, in that little Brakpan office, were now people walking past me in the corridor. Step 5 is where you might be wondering why I am telling you my life story. Quite simply put, I don't know how my life would look or be like without Sarens in it. Is it hard work? For sure. Does it lead to long hours? Absolutely. Is it worth it? Join us and see for yourself. I own my future at Sarens. Own your future too and join Sarens! Job searching can be a challenging task, and one that can take a considerable amount of time and effort if you do it right. I'm talking about quality over quantity of course, and just applying for a few jobs which you are suitable for, but doing the research and applying thoroughly and really well. I was speaking with a candidate this week who wasn't making much progress and receiving rejections and sometime silence from employers and Recruiters. I can see how that could get under your skin, even for the most resilient person. However, it's important to remember that it's normal, and that the key is to pick yourself up to keep going. Here are three things to keep in mind during your job search: 1. Don't underestimate the power of connecting face-to-face or on a phone call rather than sending emails or messages. Sometime you may have to search out contact details, but it is usually worth it, as it gets your name to the top of the pack when they hear personally from you. 2. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Most people are willing to help if asked, but they are not mind-readers. Whether that be advice on CV writing, interviews, training or whatever - ASK. 3. Remember to take breaks, go for a walk, meditate, enjoy a hobby etc. Looking for a new can be a job in itself so make sure you plan your day out, take break, have lunch, then switch off at "home time." Remember, keep going! It can be really hard to see your way through when you start to self-doubt, but it is critical to surround yourself with people who remind you of all the great things you have done and your potential for the future. Faltec Europe Ltd is recruiting right now for a Tooling Technician, Maintenance Technician and NPI Project Engineer. Would you like to find out more? Please call me on 07710 083230 anytime.
