🌆 Urban Climate Action! An insightful report from UNDP, UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) and the Syddansk Universitet - University of Southern Denmark, Bloomberg Philanthropies and C40 Cities shows us that cities account for about 70% of global energy consumption and 60% of greenhouse gas emissions, which means that their role in achieving #climategoals is more critical. Analysis of urban areas highlighted several challenges and solutions: 👉Urban Focus: 66% of NDCs need greater emphasis on urban priorities. 👉Funding Gaps: Many NDCs need finance, only 26 specify urban-level funding requests. 👉Key Sectors: Critical urban sectors like energy, transport, waste, and water, essential for both mitigation and adaptation. 👉Climate Hazards: 89% of NDCs address climate hazards, but only 40% specifically mention urban climate risks. "Urban content of NDCs: Local climate action explored through in-depth country analyses” underscores the importance of incorporating #urbanstrategies into national commitments, making cities essential partners in climate action. 🔗 Download the full #report: https://lnkd.in/d9qVkigk The AT LAST project is working to support local authorities in navigating these challenges. The European Environment Agency (EEA) has released the report ‘Urban adaptation in Europe,’ which highlights the urgent need to adapt European cities to climate change, investing in urban societal resilience. The report outlines effective actions that cities have already implemented: ✅ Urban planning and building codes ✅ Nature-based solutions, which featured in 91% of local adaptation plans ✅ Economic incentives and public information campaigns 🔍 Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/ejvS-ig9 🏙️ How are we trying to collaborate on solutions? 🇪🇺 European cities are important actors when it comes to achieving climate targets. A study by UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme), UNDP and the UNESCO Chair on Urban Resilience (SDU_Resilience) reveals that while cities account for 70% of global primary energy consumption and 60% of global greenhouse gas emissions, many countries' nationally determined contributions (#NDCs) overlook urban strategies. 📑 Discover how European cities can lead #ClimateAction and explore actionable recommendations from the report: https://lnkd.in/dhjgZKXv

Cities are responsible for approximately 70% of global energy consumption and 60% of greenhouse gas emissions. As population growth rises in urban areas, cities are increasingly vulnerable to climate change. This also makes cities essential partners in achieving global climate targets. A recent report – jointly prepared by UNDP Climate, UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) and Syddansk Universitet - University of Southern Denmark, with support from Bloomberg Philanthropies and C40 Cities – analyses urban content in 194 national climate pledges (NDCs). Some key findings from the report: 1. 66% of NDCs analysed contain either a moderate or strong level of urban content, indicating space for greater emphasis on urban priorities and solutions. 2. Many NDCs (160 of them) highlight the need for finance to facilitate NDC implementation at national levels, while only 26 include specific requests for finance at urban levels. 3. The urban sectors most frequently referenced in NDCs are energy, transport and mobility, and waste for mitigation, and infrastructure and water for adaptation. 4. Emphasis on climate hazards is indicated in 89% of NDCs; however, only 40% mention urban climate hazards. Check out the full report for more information. https://lnkd.in/eHFwYPnD cc James Vener

Did you know that cities are key to a climate-resilient Europe, especially where stronger adaptation targets are set, as that can boost progress⁉️ ⚜️The European Environment Agency’s (EEA) report, published today, highlights the urgent need to adapt European cities to climate change and provides an overview of actions they are taking. ⚜️The report provides a rich source of information to support climate adaptation policies across Europe, from EU to municipal level. ⚜️As European cities increasingly feel the impacts of climate change, such as heatwaves and floods, there’s a clear case for investing in urban societal resilience. ⚜️Cities have an essential role in the implementation of adaptation actions such as: 🔅urban planning and building codes 🔅 economic incentives and insurance 🔅 early-warning systems and information campaigns 🔅 promoting urban agriculture 🔅 effective nature-based solutions for cooling and water retention in cities The EEA report also highlights several enabling conditions for successful adaptation: ✅ sustained political commitment that is often linked to adequate long-term funding ✅ good governance and engagement of local citizens ✅ learning from other cities and knowledge- based decision making 📢 Most importantly, ➡️ adaptation is required across all sectors and at all governance levels, ➡️ and that actions will need to both address current climate impacts and protect against greater, future risks❗️ For more details, please read the report here ⬇️

😁 I am delighted to announce that the IPCC Panel has today approved the outline for the Special Report on Cities and Climate Change. This represents a crucial step forward in our global efforts to address the urgent challenges posed by climate change, particularly in urban environments. 🌆 Cities are at the forefront of climate action, and they are also disproportionately affected by its impacts. The SRCCC will provide the scientific evidence base needed to support policymakers, urban planners, and communities in developing and implementing effective climate mitigation and adaptation strategies. 🤝 I am particularly proud of the collaborative process that has shaped this outline. By involving a wide range of experts, including scientists and urban practitioners, we have ensured that the report will be both scientifically rigorous and highly relevant to real-world decision-making. #climatechange #IPCC #climateAction #globalwarming #sustainability #urbanplanning #sustainablecities #cityplanning #urbanization

AMAZON , Don’t destroy AMAZON Our forests are disappearing at an alarming rate. Over the past few decades, we've witnessed the devastating impact of deforestation, with millions of acres of lush, vibrant ecosystems being cleared for various purposes. This alarming trend not only destroys the natural habitats of countless species but also contributes to climate change, soil erosion, and the disruption of vital water cycles. It's time we take action to protect and restore our precious forests and oceans and finally Earth before it's too late. NATO or other Organizations are also responsible for protecting our forests and oceans and all humanity with peace . They should respect to all thoughts without considering racism and finally developing to keep our planet Earth . We have no other place to live as alternative except Earth . Let’s young leaders control future of our planet. NATO and Organization are responsible to bring peace not to manufacturing war guns and tools . We are all in one ship . Please don’t make hole our ship .

Cities are both a problem and a solution to the climate crisis. The role of cities in climate plans is critical. 70% of energy is consumed and 60% of emissions are produced in urban areas, and these numbers are growing with increasing urban populations. A new report from UNDP, UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme), & UNESCO Chair on Urban Resilience (SDU_Resilience) reveals that only 27% of national climate pledges (NDCs) incorporate strong urban elements. With less than a year left for countries to update their NDCs, the report reveals that 74% of NDCs have room to enhance urban content, demonstrating the opportunities that cities can offer in achieving decarbonization targets. Key findings: 🔹 Only 27% of the 194 NDCs have strong urban content, showing room for more urban-focused priorities and solutions. 🔹 While 160 NDCs highlight the need for national-level finance, only 26 specifically request funding for cities. 🔹 47% of NDCs address both adaptation and mitigation in cities, focusing on energy, transport, waste, infrastructure, and water. 🔹 89% of NDCs mention climate hazards, but only 40% address hazards from a city perspective, despite also facing challenges. A new report from UN agencies reveals that only 27% of national climate pledges (NDCs) incorporate strong urban elements. The 2025 deadline for updating existing or preparing new NDCs is an important opportunity to correct this.
