Turkish Airlines announced its passenger and cargo traffic results for May 2024, showing a 7.3% increase in capacity (ASK) compared to 2023. The airline carried 7.2 million passengers, with an international load factor of 79.3% and a domestic load factor of 84.2%. International-to-international transfer passengers rose by 3.6%, reaching 2.5 million. Cargo and mail volume surged by 28.8% to 174,400 tonnes. From January to May 2024, the total number of passengers increased by 5.7% to 32.8 million, while the cargo/mail carried grew by 33.7% to 814,700 tonnes. Here’s a breakdown of the September traffic results: 🌍 International Passengers: A positive growth of 3.1% with 2.74 million passengers, compared to 2.66 million in September 2023. 📉 Overall Passengers: A slight decrease of 3.4%, from 7.9 million in 2023 to 7.7 million in 2024. 💺 Occupancy Rates: The total occupancy rate dropped by 1.1pp to 83.8%, with 83.3% internationally and 88.8% domestically. 📦 Cargo & Mail: A significant increase of 11.9% with 168.1 thousand tons carried compared to 150.2 thousand tons in 2023. 📈 ASK (Available Seat Kilometers): ASK rose by 5.7%, reaching 22.3 billion in September 2024. For the January-September 2024 period: 🛫 Passenger Growth: 65.1 million passengers carried, a 1.8% increase from 63.9 million in the same period of 2023. Outward Transfer Passengers: A 6.7% increase to 23.9 million. 💼 Cargo & Mail: 1.5 million tons transported, a remarkable 26.5% growth from 2023. ✈️ The fleet now stands at 467 aircraft. The International Air Transport Association (#IATA) World Air Transport Statistics (WATS) released the 2023 global cargo airline rankings. According to the report, in 2023, global demand measured in freight ton-kilometers (CTKs) fell by 1.7% year-on-year for the top 25 cargo airlines. 1. #FedEx still leads the top 25 cargo airlines, with annual cargo volume of 17.9 billion CTK, down 8.3% year-on-year. 2.#Qatar Airways surpassed UPS to rise to second place, with annual cargo volume of 14.4 billion CTK, up 1% year-on-year. 3.#UPS dropped one place to third place, with annual cargo volume of 14.2 billion CTK, down 10.4% year-on-year.

Turkish Airlines has disclosed traffic numbers for 2023. In line with the airline’s ambitious growth goals, passenger traffic metrics showed double digit increases across the board. The Turkish flag carrier carried a record 83.4 million people last year, of which 53 million flew internationally (a 14% increase over 2022). Remarkably, international traffic was up 27% compared to 2019, which confirms that Turkish Airlines has left any pandemic after-effects firmly behind. The growth in the domestic market, which is driven by continued capacity increase, was even sharper at 23.5%, reaching the 30 million passenger mark.
