Its importance and complex nature also bring long hours, emotional situations, and the risk of staff burnout. As you seek to grow, engage, and empower your healthcare team, here are four ways to build confidence and longevity in your team: 1. Prioritize open communication - Establish proper lines and processes of communication, create different ways to gather feedback 3. Promote action - Collaboration and teamwork, let your actions back up your words 4. “An oftentimes overlooked component to a Patient Safety Program is the emotional wellbeing of the healthcare workforce. As the Journal of Mental Health and Clinical Psychology concluded in one of its reviews (attached here) “the emotional wellness of healthcare stakeholders and the health of an organization itself are not mutually exclusive.” As a result, the correlation between healthcare professionals' physical, emotional, and mental health and the quality of patient care cannot be overstressed. A well-supported, healthy workforce is less prone to making errors, more likely to engage in positive communication, and better equipped to handle the rigors of patient care. This, in turn, leads to safer clinical environments, reduced incidences of medical errors, and enhanced patient outcomes. Moreover, prioritizing the wellbeing of the healthcare workforce can lead to higher job satisfaction, lower turnover rates, and a more positive organizational culture, all of which are fundamental to sustaining high standards of patient safety. In essence, investing in the health and wellbeing of healthcare workers is not just beneficial for the workers themselves but is an indispensable strategy for enhancing the overall quality of healthcare delivery and patient safety.” #PatientSafety #HealthcareWorkers #WorkforceWellbeing #QualityCare

It has been common for hospitals and health systems distinguish their Patient Safety Program from their Employee Safety and Well-being. One benefit of the COVID-19 pandemic is the emerging body of literature and recognition of the interdependence between employee wellbeing, organizational culture, systems improvement, and patient safety. Great Safety Programs are woven into the organization structure, processes, governance, performance management, technological enablers, strategic partnerships, employee development, and culture. https://lnkd.in/eQrtuY4D

Investing and supporting our people is the "secret sauce" to creating a healthcare organization built on a foundation of safety and quality . The little things add up and result in a cohesive and dedicated team focused on the patient. Leaders must be totally committed to supporting their entire team...from the greeter at the front door to their executive team.
