#RecommendedReading The Back from the Brink report by CSE has Amrtha Kasturi Rangan, Head of our Rural Development vertical feeling optimistic about the way government, communities and civil society organizations are working together to bring water to all Indians! Find out why, below! “Experts are ringing the alarm bells on India’s water crisis, the latest being the warning from Moody’s. We must heed the warning that water scarcity can have far reaching impacts on our economy. However, the recently launched CSE report “Back from the Brink” highlights that there is still hope! We are happy to see the Gaalmukt Dharan Gaalyukt Shivar (GDGS) scheme of the Government of Maharashtra, with which we have a long-standing engagement, as a part of the report! At the same time, I believe a lot more can be done nation-wide to help create distributed, local and sustainable water sources. For instance, the First Census of Water Bodies documents that of the 24 lakh water bodies in the country, around 45% have never been repaired. There is an urgent need to scale the best practices captured in the CSE report and rejuvenate water bodies across the country. Doing it via the Rejuvenation of Waterbodies model will help ensure it is community-centric with optimal silt usage. The cost- and time -efficiency of the model can materially increase the number of water bodies we can tackle per year. Link to the report:https://lnkd.in/dkYZM5hz
