Robert Zemeckis + Tom Hanks has always been my favorite combo, be it Cast Away, Forest Gump, Polar Express or Pinocchio. So when both of them sat together for their next adventure, "Here" was born. Three things have got me excited here. 1) Of course, the pairing of Hanks and Zemeckis returns. 2) First film to use a technology called Metaphysic Live to Face Swap and De-age using Artificial Intelligence. 3) And the most interesting aspect of this movie: The entire film is shot on a static camera. The camera doesnt move, only the things and people within that frame moves. https://lnkd.in/g7fTyb29

New Post: Blast Off to the Past: Exploring the Golden Age of Sci-Fi Cinema (1950s & 60s) - https://lnkd.in/gcRbjHFT 1950s and 60s were a golden age for science fiction cinema, a time when Cold War anxieties, atomic age optimism, and a burgeoning space race fueled a wave of imaginative and often thought-provoking films. These classic sci-fi movies, with their cheesy special effects, campy dialogue, and outlandish creatures, continue to captivate audiences today. Why These Films Endure: Reflecting Societal Fears: These films often served as allegories for contemporary anxieties, exploring themes of nuclear war, communist invasion, and technological advancement. They tapped into the collective fears of the era, offering a cathartic escape while prompting reflection on the human condition. Exploring the Unknown: With the space race in full swing, these films ignited imaginations with visions of alien worlds, interstellar travel, and the possibilities of life beyond Earth. They tapped into our innate curiosity about the universe and our place within it. Moral and Philosophical Questions: Beyond the fantastical elements, many of these films grappled with complex moral and philosophical questions about humanity, technology, and the future. They explored themes of artificial intelligence, social control, and the ethical implications of scientific progress. Creative Ingenuity: Despite limited budgets and technology, filmmakers of this era employed innovative techniques and imaginative storytelling to bring their visions to life. These films are a testament to the power of creativity and resourcefulness. Nostalgia and Charm: The grainy film quality, retro aesthetics, and campy dialogue of these classic sci-fi movies hold a nostalgic charm for many viewers. They offer a glimpse into a bygone era and a reminder of the enduring power of imagination. Must-See Classics: The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951): A powerful alien visitor arrives with a warning for humanity about the dangers of nuclear weapons. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956): A chilling tale of alien pods replacing humans, reflecting Cold War paranoia and fears of conformity. Forbidden Planet (1956): A visually stunning space adventure inspired by Shakespeare's The Tempest, exploring the dangers of unchecked technology and the subconscious mind. The Blob (1958): A campy classic featuring a growing blob of alien goo that consumes everything in its path, reflecting anxieties about the unknown and the potential for environmental disaster. Plan 9 from Outer Space (1959): Often hailed as the "worst movie ever made," this cult classic is a testament to the creativity and passion of independent filmmaking, even with its limitations. Beyond the Screen: The legacy of these classic sci-fi movies extends beyond the screen, influencing generations of filmmakers, writers,

FAUX FILMS: The Discovery of the Unicorn For centuries, scientists have been trying to discover the unicorn. There have always been vague analog images of the unicorn, much like the mythical Loch Ness monster. But now, they have finally found it. In the mountains of Switzerland, a strange-looking horse was seen. "The Discovery of the Unicorn" follows a group of scientists attempting to capture the elusive unicorn on film. —— "Faux Films" is an imaginative AI series that brings non-existent movies to life. Each episode focuses on a specific film, featuring scenes, characters, and settings that are born from imagination. While these films may never make it to the silver screen, "Faux Films" offers the chance to visit worlds and stories existing only in the domain of make-believe. AI-generated, retouched and enhanced in post-production by me.

After watching The Terminator last night, I have good news. It's unlikely we'll see a defense AI system (Skynet) turn against humans and mint cyborgs to kill us by 2029. The Terminator is 40 years old, and forecast an apocalyptic Los Angeles in 2029. The Terminator was prescient in providing a Hollywood account of AI and cyborgs that resonates today, and is one of the iconic science fiction treatments of an AI horror. I watched this last night in a movie theater with one of my late teen daughters. It was fun feeling the nostalgia of this movie 40 years on, and sharing that a generation later. Besides the AI and cyborg reflections of a classic movie, what else did watching this teach me? ✨ Keep the message simple. No one has been better than Arnold at distilling a message into a few words. "Get out." "I'll be back." ✨ Communications have changed. Arnold pursues Sarah Connor by looking up her address in a phone book. People answer land line calls in 1984. The world of smartphones wasn't part of the imaginary 2029 in The Terminator. ✨ A good story is an emotional human one. This one has the relationship between humans and technology sour. The Terminator is a love story, of John Connor's parents across time. It's a story of parental sacrifice. It's a story of human resilience. In 1984, the projections of AI and Arnold and cyborgs seem relevant but also, gladly, missed the mark. #AI #Terminator #movies #story #cyborg The Independent Picture House

Once again. In the movie "Blade Runner," there's an unusual phenomenon. A phrase that became a symbol of the film and opens a portal to Ridley Scott's universe, which we don't see in either the first movie or in Blade Runner 2049. It's the "Tears in Rain" monologue: "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die." The monologue, delivered by Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer), has become a standalone meme and is the subject of a separate article on Wiki: https://lnkd.in/dhuNASzn https://lnkd.in/dtgTQeEb This brief 42-word monologue creates the densest flow of associations and calls to an unknown land. This phrase isn't about attacking ships; it's about the invaluable experience that we can never share. But we deeply wish we could. Irrationally so. It would be interesting to see how Robert Sapolsky, who tries to convince us that we are primitive bio-machines, would explain this. I share the idea that human behavior is often mechanistic, but still, equating people to robots is an overly strained metaphor, far removed from life. 🤣
