Happy belated international woman’s day. As we celebrate how far we have come as women and rightly so, let us also use our platforms to highlight the plight of desperate women in the world with limited access to sanitary products for their periods, let us remember those girls still facing the risk of female genital mutilation around the world, also highlight the little girls who still face the trauma of child marriages everyday around the world, and not least the ubiquitous nature of domestic violence against women in many societies. The list goes on and on… We must remember to keep highlighting these issues on behalf of all women everywhere. Ask yourself what more can I do, and what can the organisation I work for do to help tackle these issues. #happywomensday

🩸 A different kind of post from me today and a call to arms to all my male connections, off the back of last night's The Women in Programmatic Network event for IWD. I've always been BAFFLED by the shyness and tiptoeing around the subject of being on your period. It's always been a taboo that would be whispered under the breath as if it's a dirty little secret. And anytime this has happened with a colleague, friend or partner I've tried to trivialise their concern and reassure them that it's OKAY to speak about. Almost laughing it off... Was this the right way to go about it? It's a normal bodily function that in fact should be celebrated as a sign of a healthy vulvar capable of reproduction. Isn't this obvious? We wouldn't act this way about a broken foot, being sick or having a wound. And so I was particularly inspired by Gabby Jahanshahi-Edlin's story of Bloody Good Period and their mission for menstrual equity - from access to education and discussion. Upon reflection I was exposed to this conversation much earlier. At 8 years old I remember discussion of my aunts doctoral thesis, titled ‘Menstruation in material and and promotional culture: The commodification and mediation of female sanitary products in Britain 1880-1914’ (link in comments). And so perhaps I was normalised to the topic of conversation. I think we are getting more comfortable with this conversation, but my ask here is for men to continue being supporting and accommodating in all things menstruation. Thanks Niki Chana and WIPN for hosting and extending the invite to all genders.

Today is #InternationalWomensDay Today we celebrate the incredible talent and resilience of women and girls worldwide. It’s an opportunity to recognize all that women have achieved and contribute, as well as to build and realize the remarkable possibilities if we unite to support and remove barriers and dismantle biases. So, lets lift each other up and “inspire” the current and the next generation of women as we forge a better world! Across the globe women are making huge difference to alleviate suffering of mankind. Step by step we must wind back the restraints and constraints that our industry and our societies have imposed and held women back from unleashing the full power of their capabilities and leadership. We must not just say we stand for the rights of women. We must act. As we act, we must remember the faces of Israeli women who have endured torture, starvation, physical and psychological abuse, and sexual violence. And continue to do so while captive and in the hands of #hamasisisis. They are the faces of women worldwide. They are the faces of the suppression and abuse of women across our globe. Stand for women's rights. Join the fight to bring these women home. Join the fight to free the power of women worldwide. #womensrights #BringBackOurGirls #BringHerHome #womenhealth #womeninbio #bringthemhomenow #freethehostages

November 25 marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. This day serves as a powerful reminder of the challenges millions of women face worldwide, as well as the importance of raising awareness and fostering a culture of respect, safety, and equality. This year’s theme, “Every 10 Minutes, a woman is killed. #NoExcuse. UNiTE to End Violence Against Women,” highlights the alarming escalation of violence and femicides globally. At Menarini Group, where social responsibility has always been a fundamental principle, we stand in solidarity with this cause, believing in fostering compassion and humanity in all aspects of life. Let us unite to keep attention focused on this critical issue and work together towards a future of dignity and safety for all. #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #UNiTE #Menarini

So long as women are valued more for their biology than their brain-power and respected more for their physical attributes than their character, all talk about women’s rights and fairness is doomed to fall by the wayside. As Communications Director for NOW, decades ago, efforts to change this thinking were central to our mission. And yet, here we are – facing another attempt at genocide through sexual offense. Facing a moment when choices about our bodies and our health are determined not, in fact, to be ours. Facing so many of the same conditions we hoped to transform so many years ago. If we find ourselves thanking the world for little more than lip service and adjustments granted, can we truly find lasting positive change? Not if we keep talking around the problem and not getting to the central issue of what it means to be fully human – beyond race, beyond religion, beyond caste, beyond gender. This isn’t simply a plea for equity or fairness, but a hope – on today of all days – that we might finally use the talents of the world’s population to everyone’s advantage. For the good of all, please take Jeremy’s words to heart.
