ATM is delighted to have played a key role in the revitalisation of Fleming Way in Swindon, as part of a £33 million project. The area will be transformed into the main gateway to Swindon town centre and provide much improved connectivity for bus and train transport👇 To date, ATM have been contracted to plant: 🌲 176 mature trees 🌱 19,000 shrubs and herbaceous plants to increase biodiversity and all-year-round interest 🌷 3,500 spring and summer flowering bulbs Stay tuned for a full case study once the project completes in April 2025! #landscaping #flemingway #treeplanting #softlandscaping

Did you know that 80% of mangrove planting projects fail? 🌱 Successful restoration relies on creating the right conditions for mangroves to regenerate naturally. 👉 Here are a few reasons why mass-planting mangroves can often fail: https://lnkd.in/gSUF9y3N Wetlands International has therefore adopted a more effective approach called Community-Based Ecological Mangrove Restoration (CBEMR) in its projects together with Mangrove Action Project (MAP). We have been building the capacity of close to 700 stakeholders around the world to use and upscale the approach through regular CBEMR trainings. #WeNeedWetlands #mangroverestoration #NatureBasedSolutions #WorldMangroveDay #WMD2024 #ClimateAction #BiodiversityLoss #GenerationRestoration #ForNature 👉 The Global Mangrove Alliance has created the ‘Best Practice Guidelines for Mangrove Restoration’. One of the 1st things I learned in my job at Wetlands International is that mangrove restoration is not the same as planting a bunch of trees and hoping for the best. Like all ecosystems mangroves are complex and the conditions need to be just right for restoration to be successful. Want to know more about how restoration can work, check out the video below.

The Mi'kmaq are leading a critical conservation effort to save ancient hemlock forests from the invasive hemlock woolly adelgid. In addition to their cultural significance, the hemlocks also play a critical ecological role for the mainland moose, a distinct species that is listed as endangered in Nova Scotia. Mi’kmaq conservation values of Etuaptmumk, or using "two-eyed seeing", combines traditional Indigenous ecological knowledge with western scientific methods, and showcases a sustainable approach to managing environmental challenges. https://bit.ly/456vZF3

A very timely insight on why Random planting of mangroves is bound to fail as a restoration measure. Sustainable restoration requires careful study of the environment in which the replantation processes are being initiated.

A focus on tree planting can divert from the priority: to conserve & protect what we have. It can take 15-20 years for a newly created mangrove forest to reach an equivalent maturity. 🌱 Successful restoration relies on creating the right conditions for mangroves to regenerate naturally. We shed light on a few reasons why mass-planting mangroves can go wrong. Swipe to learn more. Restoring and replanting #mangroves in a landscape is a complex process that depends on many biophysical and socioeconomic conditions. #Mangrove restoration efforts that are thoughtfully planned out and utilise proven methods have a higher chance of resulting in a sizeable, functional, and self-sustaining forest cover benefiting people and nature. 🌎 The Global Mangrove Alliance (GMA) and the Blue Carbon Initiative (BCI), have developed the 'Global Mangrove Restoration Guidelines', and are bringing together NGOs, governments, scientists, industry, local communities, and funders towards a common goal of conserving and restoring mangrove ecosystems in a science-based, fair, and equitable manner. 🌱 UN Environment Programme, Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute https://lnkd.in/gBU_KviX 👉 Download the Guidelines here - https://bit.ly/44vMRVb #mangroverestoration #mangroveplanting #restoration #Climateaction #WeNeedWetlands #forNature #GenerationRestoration

129,006 trees planted and counting! As we celebrate Earth Day, its another great opportunity for me to learn more about the amazing projects carried out by the Croda Foundation. I wonder how many trees we will actually have planted by 2030?! #Croda #Earthday2024 #treedom #restoringecosystems
Happy Earth Day! 🌏 At Croda Foundation, one of our three focus areas is protecting and restoring ecosystems. Our goal was to plant 30,000 trees through agroforestry projects by 2030. We are excited to share that through our project partners we have far exceeded this goal, planting 129,006 trees! 🌲 As we continue to reach our milestones, we look forward to not only being people positive but also improving the impact we have on our planet. 💙 #crodafoundation #improvinglives #restoringecosystems #earthday2024 Photo courtesy of our project partner Treedom.
